Newbie saying hello - recent purchase
« on: December 04, 2017, 09:50:59 »
Hi all,

I purchased a DJI Mavic this weekend after having had a few cheaper drones to begin flying and practicing with over the last 18 months - for once I did things a relatively sensible way!

I'm really excited at the prospect of being able to get out with the Mavic and figure out the myriad of features and camera settings etc at the weekend.

Look forward to getting involved!

Nick

Thanks guys!!

Whats with the warnings about cost/bank balance?!  Is this a hint of unreliability of the Mavic or is there some kind of modification world I haven't discovered yet...?

*cough* I did order a MavMount yesterday so I can use my iPad instead of my phone..

Definitely no reliability issues with the Mavic, mine spends 90% of it flying over water.

You will probably want to buy another drone at some point, as the correct amount of drones to have is "how many do you have" + 1

You'll be really impressed with the Mavic, had my 10 months now and its great. Feel free to ask if you have any issues or need any advice, I'm always happy to help as are many on this forum.

Ahhhh....it’s a downhill slope!

So are there any UK retailers/websites you guys would recommend for parts, accessories etc? Might as well get stuck in!

For DJI products, www.rcgeeks.co.uk are a good supplier with great telephone assistance. I would also recommend www.quadcopters.co.uk they also can be reached by phone if needed, and Tom is very helpful.

Here a few other UK based suppliers I would also recommend

www.makeitbuildit.co.uk/
www.hobbyrc.co.uk
www.electricwingman.co.uk

All have offered great service for me.

Some great tips guys thanks!

I did get 3 batteries and extra props with the kit so hopefully will last a while.

I’ll need a longer cable with the MavMount I’m guessing, any particular place people source these - or any old Maplin type shop will do them?

I use one of these with my Mavic AND iPad Mini, the right angle end makes for a neat setup.

The braiding makes for a tough cable..

Looks good! Do you use an adaptor, I notice it’s a full size USB and the Mavic controller is a mini usb of some type
