Hello all, long time no see...

So looking at getting back into flying after my little break, took out my trusty DX7 to find it is borked and displays "BACKUP ERROR" on the screen  :o

From what I can see on the interweb this is a service repair centre only issue. I am aware of HH doing away with some UK based stuff apparently but the only number I can find (01279 297061) appears to reach an answerphone and then goes dead.

Anyone got any numbers or suggestions?

I think they have shut their UK office and Brexited to Germany.  They might still have great customer service once you send it over there.  Perhaps try submitting a ticket here:

Shame, HH were great, hopefully they still are.

Cheers pal.

I was hoping to avoid shipping overseas, and to be honest the cost of doing so with insurance etc I would most likely be better off buying another TX.

I have emailed Alshobbies and found a guy who repairs JR radio gear so will have to see what they say.

It's a great TX and has served me well over the years and don't really fancy buying a new one.

Seems they are not, at least not from a plethora of complaints on many Forums and Faceache. Seems very very hit and miss and from some people's experience Stuafenbiel are having to send some items to the USA for repair, with consequent extended delays.

My DX6i and two DX7's will run till they drop, I might consider putting my DSM2/DSMX DX9 to a well known independent UK repairer, but as I have a multi-module on one Horus which happily does DSM2 and DSMX inc telemetry I'm unlikely to need it once it fails.

While I still happily use Spektrum, no way would I buy any more HH radio (or Futaba, etc) now they do not have a good UK repair base and I'm accustomed to FrSky.

I figured by the time I get it to Als Hobbies and get messed about for 40 or 50 quid I'd may as well put the extra funds to a new TX.

Interestingly I contacted HH on Facebook asking if they had details of a service centre here in the UK and they had no idea and suggested I send the DX7 off to Germany  :hmm:

Good, but I hope its a good'un.  Don't want to rain on your parade, but being in two large clubs and a couple of smaller ones and meeting people out at slopes, its quite noticeable that the DX8 seems to generate more "bad press" for faults than any other Spektrum transmitter. (This is NOT a Spektrum versus other makes comment thread!!)

Now this may well be as more are sold, don't know relative numbers, but I doubt it somehow. Many early ones seemed to have lock up problems, and at least four people in my main club gave up on them after losing several aircraft and loss of flying time building new and getting the Tx fixed or replaced.

Hopefully yours is a recent(ish) model, but in any event take care to check FULL range on every new model, don't rely on power down range check. (something that I advise for EVERY make after experiences on two makes, so again, NOT a comment pointed only at Spektrum)

I have a DX6i (used to have two), two DX7, and a DX9. All used weekly.  Only the DX9 gives issues, in that rarely it will not boot up at all until the SD is removed and contacts cleaned, it seems they tarnish and go HR in time, otherwise all have been OK.

@Bad raven I did um and ah a bit before I bought it what with Spektrum/HH doing a bunk to Europe but changing brands would have meant rethinking my path back into flying and having to change RXs on my few existing planks which in all honesty I didn't fancy doing any of. Fingers crossed it will be issue free, time will tell I guess.

And I sent Mike an email, he can't do anything for my DX7 unfortunately.

@Nige8021 I'm about 30 mins away and have been a few times for various bits and bobs. I was supposed to ring and speak to their Spektrum guy but completely forgot, will give them a call next week.
