  • Bad Raven: I think a lot of us will have seen the published (leaked) training instructions to police officers on FPV, which was both incomplete and incorrect. Only the Little Hitler types will be comfortable treading any of that path!

  • Reman: Thought for the day - If a knowledgeable police officer stopped you and saw that you had a "600mW" VTX on your quad he'll get funny about it, But would even a VERY knowledgeable officer know what they were looking at if the same VTX had a professional looking label under the heat shrink that proclaimed that the VTX was in fact a 25mW unit?  :hmm:

LiPo Battery Sizing
« on: November 13, 2017, 21:07:37 »
I have been working around and using LiPo model batteries since they first became available, back when Fred Flintstone used to fly with me and borrow my gear.

There was a period in roughly 2006/7 when sizing was extremely erratic, and same make same model same capacity cells could vary by up to 5mm in any direction(s). You could order three packs and they would arrive all differently sized. This made making fitted battery bays a nightmare.

Also way back when, there was NO standard for balance connector even if the packs had one.

Well, it seems this total lack of common sense has returned!

In the last few days a friend has bought some packs which arrived with balance connectors that are not JST, and have the same number of sockets/pins regardless of 2S or 3S. (They also had no power connectors fitted, bare wire ends with shrink wrap). And I thought this disgraceful practice had ended a decade back!

I have just topped up one pack size by buying two more packs, same make, same model, same capacity, same label to some bought two months back, yet these are quite different proportions, being wider and lower, also a little longer.  (not the same supplier as above friend used).

Late last month another friend bought packs that were 1500mAh 4S 80C rated, yet were fitted with red JST (rated only 3A by manufacturer!!)  :o

WHAT A MESS............................. Note to LiPo manufacturers - SORT it PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!   :banghead: :banghead:

I noted this as well , also the power leads are well under spec for the current rating.  If the battery is cheap enough just fitting a  suitable connector  is the  remedy, although a p.i.t.a.
I think they will get the message when sales drop or they get  fried returns..

The "No power connector and weird balance plug" were Hyperion and they were not cheap!

The red JST power plugged 4S high C rated packs were from a very well known named much promoted and claimed super high power pack, I'll not say now, see if you can find them for sale!
