How good is it to be able to do a piro in loiter while in strong wind  :notworthy:  ~~

Do you have to wear that baseball cap while doing it though  :evil

Gaza07

That must be the hidden secret to a steady loiter wearing a base ball cap back to front
I wonder if it works the same with different country flags stitched to the sides  :whistling:  ~~

dji will have problem if open source become good as this

What FC';s use this firmware?  It may sound like a daft question but I';m interested to know more about these things for future reference.

Apm 2.5 board would use this
MIKE

550 RC Spider quad for FPV
550 Alien quad (my sons now)
F450 quad
450 size bell 212, MD500,Augusta 109
600 size Huey running apm 2.5  3 planes  Taranis and 9xr  radios Skyzone FPV goggles

titeuf007

32bit processor will not improve something if the code is not polish for it..so apm 2.5 has a long life behind him

coastersteve

I downloaded and installed the latest Dev firmware from:

http://firmware.diydrones.com/Copter/2013-04/

The loiter in strong winds is just like the one in the video, obviously use with caution as they';re dev firmwares but for me the performance was fantastic. I';ve tested RTL and that worked fine but not done any auto missions.

Gaza07

Hi coastersteve and welcome to the forum don';t suppose you took a video did you  feel free to share any pics or videos you have  ~~

I didn';t sorry, but I can assure you that I were pirouetting just like in the video yesterday in the strong breeze. The quad was tilting around 25-30 degree';s combating the wind.

I took these the other day which I';m quite pleased with.

i hope the core team are going to make long flight test before to release this new firmware...because there are always bugs in each release in arducopter code
i prefer to waiti 1 month but have a real polish version than a buggy
i cross my fingers

beautifull photo';s,steve, :scotland:

Stunning photos - must admit, I';m not brave enough to fly the -dev code, given the amount of flux I see in the git commits! Glad someone is though :)

I was thinking of going for a Naza.... but after seeing these clips Hmmm ....do you think that this may be a better cheaper option than the Naza ?? :hmm:

Gaza07

The only thing is with the APM there is some setup and tinkering to get it working right although it is getting better after each update, the Naza just works and is very user friendly and easy to fly but at a price   ~~

Not an easy choice it would be ideal if you knew people with the controllers you like so you could see them in action and maybe have a go with each  ~~

Thanks for that .. Will do a lot more research before going out and making a final choice ;)

titeuf007

if it s your first quad you should buy dji naza it s far easier for beginners..
apm need tunning it s not plug and play
for example on my quad alt hold doesn t work well..i need to tune it
same thing for accro and stabilise mode!now they wrking well

Fazerboy

yeah it is my first quad.... i am new to quads but not new to flying so the tuning thing doesn';t really bother me.... its a good way to find out which setting does what but ill prob go for the Naza as its a well established FC and dont really hear any bad things about them :)
