Gaza - can you make the subject line section in the forum topic list wider? It's cutting off the subject field really short.

Had another negative encounter, it's been a few years since the last one, just an uneducated ******, going on about drones being illegal yada yada yada.    :-/
Still that didn't spoil my flying time, had an absolute blast  ~~

Quick question for the experts, I have a multirotor which I have just finished at 2kg all up, I have private land to fly on but it is about 1.5km from a grass strip airfield.

I am not sure if it would fall into a ATZ as it is unlicensed. Reading cap 658 as it is under 2kg I don';t believe I have to talk to the airfield when wanting to fly as this only apply for models from 2.5 to 7kg? Can anyone shed any light on it please?

I will give them a call but can I check if there is an ATZ or any restrictions on airspace anywhere?

Hey wombat.

If you give me the coordinates/name of airfield, I can look up some more info for you.

PM it if you';d prefer not to say in public.

A good source for air traffic and zone info is skydemonlight.com

Thanks for the tip but the site requires Microsoft  Silverlight  which doesn';t work with my Linux system. Any other sites you could recommend?

If you have an ipad/google tablet, there';s a version of skydemon available to tablets.  A lot of pilots use it on ipad to pre-plan a route.  It';s not supposed to be a primary source, much like using gps isn';t in a plane (ie maps take precedence) but it IS supported by NATS so as close to official as you';re gonna get.

A nice one you can do is, if you can run google earth, go to http://www.lloydbailey.net/airspace.html and download the kmz file for your country.  This overlays airspace data on google earth.  When you view it "side on" it even shows you classes of airspace at the levels they apply.  Impressive stuff.

Thanks again. Google Earth is available in various Linux flavours, installed 64 bit .deb and applied the .kmz and now I am happily playingin UK airspace!  ~~
