Has anyone used the gimbals advertised on ebay for about £30, do they work are they worth buying. I want a gimbal but would prefer to keep the budget down.

One like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gopro-3-3-4-DIY-CNC-Aluminum-Brushless-Camera-Gimbal-Mount-for-DJI-Phantom-BM-/221988898017?var=&hash=item33af91c4e1:m:mYdnwXwFtuhymJRR8TUfteg

I';ve got a couple of them - work really well for me. I have one on my phantom 1 with vtx for fpv a second i made a cheap Handheld gimbal using a paint brush holder. Videos are on YouTube

On phantom1 first test from ages ago

Painless 360 covers all you need to know on the above link, just ensure you have the 2.2b2 firmware on the board and don';t try to reload any other than what the board comes with as these boards will brick as many have found out.

All 3 of mine arrived with different firmware and not always what was stated by the seller, so go to the basecam site and download the GUIs first.

Remember to balance the camera first otherwise you will think it is not working.

Fine tune once balanced with the correct GUI for your firmware  ie 2.2b2 etc.

Great once dialled in.

Thanks guys , that';s really helpful.

Great project Jamesb72.  Those hand held gopro gimbal sticks are expensive - your solution is nice.

rsmith21

That is a cool idea Jamesb, I may buy one just for that :) . I';ve ordered a G-2D Brushless Gimbal for the quad, having looked at what';s available I liked the idea of the lighter plastic made mechanism to.

For handheld stuff a gimbal may not be needed for much longer as internal stabilisation is getting pretty good on the cheap gopro clones

This is the firefly 6s which is under 70 quid.  The git2 may be even better and has a screen.

Great Demo, I never realised how much easier it is to see the features on faces when the camera is stabilised too, well done that man :) .

I have also ordered the "CNC" type gimbal too, as well as the Walkera D-2G , I';ll fit the best one to the quad and make a hand held gimbal from the other. Thanks for the inspiration Jamesb72

The £30 gimbal arrived today and I';m very pleased with it, worked perfectly with the gopro right away, Following the links on the little booklet I';ve installed the GUI and drivers and saved a copy of the original config just for reference.

Now to mount it on the 450 or make a handheld camera gimbal as per Jamesb.  :)

Garry, it said it does but hadn';t tried it, so quickly connected them up. I';m happy to report both tilt and roll work,
I have scanned the little leaflet that comes with it so you can see the instructions, attached below, you also get screws, standoff pillars and a couple of handy cables to help connect it all up. as you  can see from the instructions its aimed at Phantom users but its very flexible and can be configured to be mounted in many ways give a little fettling :) and don';t we love the fettling. Hope this helps.

Edit, I thought I had a problem when I first tried it, so read the instructions. They state that the camera must be firmly attached, I thought I had but the gimbal was buzzing away, I tightened up the Velcro strap by taking it out of the slots and going right round the camera and baseplate, problem solved. I';m using windows 10 on a PC here are the links I used to get the software in case I needed it, but it worked no problem right out of the box.

I got Java VM from her https://help.aol.com/articles/download-and-install-the-latest-java-virtual-machine-in-internet-explorer

the Windows driver from here http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx

The GUI from here https://www.basecamelectronics.com/downloads/8bit/ there are a few 8 bit versions, but since the booklet I had stated BGC2.2 b2 that';s the one I used, I don';t know if other versions would work, so input from more experienced users welcome :)
