Twister Rates

Hi Guys & Gals,

We had some good weather today down in Southampton so I went out to my local field of five acres and gave it a good thrashing.

20% was no good! Easy up and easy down but no real authority.

40% was a tad better but not by much.

60% was better still but occasionally needed a tad more.

100% Totally nutty! Entered by mistake and while pottering around i pulled back quickly to stop forward movement and it flipped! It hit the deck but the model is very resilient!

Question......

Is there a way of setting the rates to 80% as I feel this would be the optimum?

Cheers.

Jim

I don';t think so, but know what you mean - I';m flying mine all of the time including indoors on 60%, I have tried 100% and found the same as you, it';s mental!!!
I';ve found that it';s durable, possibly more so than a Hubsan x4, the main thing to avoid (apart from trees) is flying it when there';s any more than a gently breeze - ask me how I know (to be posted soon!).

AlexEssex

Do you think that this is one of the negatives of the Twister? No 80% rates. That appears to be worrying as there is clearly a 40% leap here.

Nice one Darrell!  ~~

I thought that it was me! Yes it is a very robust thing but is affected by the winds which wasn';t much this afternoon but very noticeable.

I think that I will fly this like mad and then save for a decent quad. I';ve posted in the beginners section asking for help in deciding then next step which is not going to break the bank.

Cheers.

AlexEssex,

It maybe but for £44 there';s gotta be a compromise!

I think that the key here is to watch the wind speed and practice like mad on 60% until it becomes second nature then when ready switch to 100%.

Happy flying.

The positives far outweigh the negatives with the Twister, it is a very nice model and surprisingly durable. It';s only downer is that it';s so light that it doesn';t like wind but if it were heavier it wouldn';t be so durable.
When you';ve got the cash get one - trust me you will not regret it!

jimbo385

I agree.

Bang for bucks, you can';t beat it!

You couldn';t go far wrong with a 450 flamewheel clone like mine off Peter King, at £235 you won';t get anything better ready built. If you want to have a go at building the stuff from Hobby King is OK - 450 frame KK2 Flight controller motors esc';s adds up to about £70-80 but then you';ll need radio gear - the Turnigy 9x gear is excellent vfm and works well.

Hi Darrell,

I like the idea of build myself as it will give me something to do during these cold sprint nights!

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__37227__Q450_Glass_Fiber_Quadcopter_Frame_450mm_Integrated_PCB_Version_UK_Warehouse_.html

The above looks good but it';s on backorder both home and abroad. I would kit it out with spec motors, esc & the KK2 controller. Regarding radio, I currently fly with a JR PCM 9x2 with an FrSky telemetry conversion. Works well with all my other models.

I recon thatI could build one for around $150.

Does anyone know why the UK Warehouse is in USD instead of Pounds? Also, it';s more than on the US site? Crazy!

The more I dive in to the world of the JP Twister Quad, the more I discover!

The JP Twister Quad is a clone of the WLToys V929 which is very popular at the moment with great reviews, the only difference is:

>Different canopy (but everyone makes their own anyway now)
>Controller is the same in (but in black)
>And no LED';s

They also make an LED version which is the WL949 which is a mere few £ more!

By opting for a V929 instead of the Twister Quad, you can save half the price on a twister quad (from china). You can also add your own LED';s if you wish! You can fetch a 929 for £20! Now that';s mad! But, you may have to pay import duty which works out at about a fiver!

The V929 seems to be a good alternative for those cash strapped hobbyists like myself, so please give this a thought too!

Theres some rather cool mods on this website here:

Thanks.

Looks OK to me but I';m no expert - you can get the UK site up in £';s if you go down the side menu and ask it to.
The prices are a bit higher but you';ve got no chance of being stung with import duty so still worth it - I paid £1.75 for batteries for my Twister - 1S 600mah Turnigy nanotech';s and they are very good!
