Hello All,

Joined this forum last year as was about to splash out and commit to buying a multicopter. But work issues got in the way.

I was looking at the DJI Flamewheel 450 or 550 but I now see they have the Phantom out.

Is the Phantom the best option ? for a newbee who is going to be using a Hero.

Or should I stick to something more bespoke ? and is the Phantom just a gimic ?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Or should I be considering something else ?

Cheers,
NB

Phantom Pro';s:- Already set up. Easy to fly. Spares are reasonably easy to get.
Con';s:-  Difficult to upgrade other than motors and props. Difficult to use parts from this in future machines.

DJI F450/550 Pro';s:-  A good kit that goes together well. Parts from this can be used on other Quads (TBS Discovery etc). Spares are easy and cheap to obtain. Choose which RC system you wish to use.
Cons';s:- Need soldering skills to mount the ESC';s etc. Setting up the RTH can tax the brain cells initially unless you know what to do.

The Phantom is good but if you will want to progress onto something bigger/faster/better (you will!) it is probably better to go for a 450 or 550.  If you are more into the flying side of things then go for the 450.  If you have ideas of aerial photography then go with the 550 for stable flight, more internal space and lifting power.
