Hi all,
hit a big problem trying to get my new fc cc3d programmed. On the open pilot set up it';s timed out ? I';ve tried the erase and update but seem to be getting nowhere.
Am I missing something obvious ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have had a struggle at times with this too.
Had recent success by trying the update on the firmware page  , but only plugging in the usb to the fc AFTER clicking  the appropriate tab.

Yes , I';ve tried this several times but still not working. The timed out messages still come up resulting in unable to click ';next'; .

crash pilot

Hello irobot you may of seen this or read about it I don,t know but on you-tube there';s a channel called painless 360 he does lots of informative videos on this stuff. He had a problem when his board kept locking and he tells you where to look and what to do. Go on you-tube type painless360 in I think its around video 6 onward its where he is installing a buzzer video. Maybe of some help to you may not just a thought.

Thanks, yes I watched his vids when setting up my first cc3d fc. but this time with another build and new cc3d still getting the timed out message and cant move to the ';next'; procedure.
ive taken the fc of one of my other 250 quads, put it on the 450 I';m building , and still the same probs  ?

This probably wont work but when I was setting up my CC3D to use CleanFlight there is an issue that means the FC has to be powered by flight battery (via correct regulator). Wait for it to boot (30sec) then connect usb and off you go.
I know this is a CleanFlight issue but for some weird reason it might be worth powering your FC from a flight battery at correct voltage then trying the usb?
The other ';fix'; for the CC3D and CleanFlight is to half insert the usb till the leds on FC light, wait a few seconds then plug all the way in. I never managed to get this technique to work but might help?

Good Luck.
I try :-)

ched999uk, thanks  ;) that';s a bit hit or miss.
It seems to be some sort of bootloader issue I think, whatever that is. Lots of information on the net about this but nothing straight forward to fix it  :cry

if I was you i';d jump ship from openpilot (they';ve abandoned the cc3d with many bugs still present so don';t feel bad) and flash to betaflight. I';d choose beaflight over cleanflight due to its ease of tuning.

there are some issues using a cc3d with beta/cleanflight as pointed out already, every time the board needs to boot it needs power, and if it needs a reboot whilst changing settings then it needs a power cycle. apart from that its way superior to openpilot.

These problems that are mentioned with CF/BF on the CC3D are only if you keep the bootloader from openpilot.

IF you switch to CF/BF with the HEX file and get rid of the bootloader then it is fine, well I have none of those problems with my 2x CC3Ds

They are great boards when coupled with CF/BF do it.

I will try the betaflight,,,,many thanks.

Looking at the beta, is it through Github ? Every thing I try with this doesn';t work  :cry same with cleanflight,
I';m seriously considering scrapping the cc3d lol maybe buy a naze.
Still trying to figure out if it';s my computer skills with a combo of a crap computer (windows 10)

Thanks for feedback
I will watch the video, and try some more with the cc3d when I';ve got time.
I';m same, got cc3d in my two 250';s work fantastic ! Bought this third one for my 450 build and hit a massive brick wall. The only thing left to do now is sort a fc out.

like the video, hes obviously a betaflight fan.

this is news to me regarding the .hex file. can you recommend a usb/uart adaptor (or can I use an Arduino?) and how do I attach it all? could I use this usb/uart adaptor to access blheli suite via cc3d as well? running 2 quads with a cc3d and betaflight at the moment, so would be a nice upgrade to be using the .hex and blheli suite if poss.

I';m not good at giving descriptions, miss stuff out, but here goes.

I use an FTDI USB->serial adaptor got from FTDI direct, wired up to the main port on the CC3D.
Short out the boot mode pin and power up.
I flashed with the ST flash tool as that was available to me at work, can';t use the configurator on work PC.
Betaflight can be got from here for those who are not sure.

https://github.com/borisbstyle/betaflight/releases

USB worked direct after that. Not sure about the BlHeli pass through to the ESC, don';t have BlHeli ESCs yet so not been keeping uptodate with developments. Not tried to do a FW update through the USB  not sure it will work. but for config the USB is fine.

Good description thanks.
I';ve read about this shorting the boot mode pin. The board doesn';t even light up now (usb or lipo), so probably a faulty FC. Reputable seller has offered a replacement but that will take another few days to sort out now.
I will just start again once received with new usb cable on a different computer, and try one last time with the openpilot just because I found it so easy to navigate.

Many thanks guys for all the input, will let you know how I get on :-)

All I need to do now is remove props plug and programme fc,,,,hopefully lol and my soldering is getting a bit  better.

Quick update  -  I received a new cc3d today , and it took about 10 mins to update and set up ! It went like clockwork. The FC I sent back was obviously faulty and the seller replaced without question (ukholdings- ebay).
This has restored my faith again in the cc3d and open pilot, as for a  newb idiot like myself there very user-friendly.
The faulty fc that was purchased originally for my 450 build , got me feeling a little disheartened, so I just took one of my 250 just to finish the project. Setting this new fc up back on the 250 the only change I';ve made was to put it into ';race mode'; instead of ';standard';
But didn';t notice any difference on quick test fly round the garden.
