Flyaway ?!

I am very upset and quite confused/concerned.
I had the fail-safe set up on my Naze32 and on the transmitter (Turnigy 9)

But it still flew away.

I had tested it and it (the fail-safes) worked the quad dropped to the floor.

But not today.

I tried everything but it became a little black dot and disappeared in less than a minute.

I am now at a loss, what do I do?

Buy another - NO CHANCE. (truth is maybe)
No money at this moment and it will cost me about £250 to replace it plus I have no confidence it couldn';t happen again.
I have no idea how/why it happened.

If anyone finds a Zmr around south London please let me know.

:cry :cry :cry :cry

So sorry to read this mate.  Its really quite stomach churning to witness. A few of us on here are fellows in this experience.

I had a Naze32 fly away earlier this year, put it down to the Orange DSM2 RX going weird on me.

Its no help now, but on your next build make sure you put your contact details on it. Hopefully an honest citizen will contact you to arrange the recovery.

I';m sure, if you';re strapped, that there some of us on the forum may have bits you could acquire for reasonable cost to put you back in the air....

This is one club I really didn';t want to belong to.

It may have been inference from wifi as I was quite near houses.
Maybe the TX/Naze fukced up I will never know.

I have to go now

Feel for you as I have lost 2 machines to flyaway incidents.

I have never minded crashing (unless I had no money for spares) but the thing buggering off can be a lot more despiriting

I haven';t flown since the last one went and seem to be doing everything possible to avoid actually flying anything (even though I have 2 separate beacon systems installed on the replacement machine)

However keep an eye on Gumtree and eBay, notify the cops should it be handed in  (or in case you end up arguing with an eBay seller)

If it was in a park then notify the park supervisors/council as it may turn up.

I';ve had a near fly away caused by the radio system power supply (Tx) dipping too low and corrupting the transmitted data packets, luckily RTL kicked in and it crash landed right side up in the middle of the field after running out of power on the way back.

Lost a tricopter in the sea, when the KK2 went batty.

depends on where you were, you might find it a few days later in a hedge/tree, or someone may be honest enough to hand it in, always worth going to the police station and letting them know.

fingers crossed for you ~~

bummer! :( wonder why it flew away though if the failsafe was set up.
Point and click.

Dang you mean the naze 32 can fly away  :o how about the atom does that have a fail safe on it if it has mine aint on only just got it set up.

That sucks  :(

Is it a standard 9x tx and rx? As they do not have a failsafe and a loss of signal will mean the rx sends the last stick input to the FC permanently, which has lead to many a fly away for many people.

I thought the 9x plus standard receiver gave 0 PPM output on signal loss

Don';t think the standard 9x rx do any kind of failsafe, I';m not familiar with APM but in that video isn';t the chap demonstrating how the APM interprets a signal loss from the 9x rx??
I had one of those rx on my first fpv tricopter when trying out my goggles and flew out of range and the tri kept going, it was saved by me raising the tx above my head and regaining signal, otherwise it would have just flown on until the battery died or something got in the way. That evening a frsky rx got fitted and the 9x module and rx consigned to the box of oldness.

I feel for you, i plan on fitting Naza lite to my 450, but wonder if its worth it seeing as the kit can still make a bid for freedom

Maybe i will stick to close range flying and might look at FPV instead

I don';t think any quad with GPS is guaranteed not to encounter a problem as there are many problem variables like user or setup error, satellite availability etc.

Cheers Guys,

It may have been a Tx-Rx problem, it is still unknown.
I definitely wasn';t out of range it was less than 3 meters away.
But it may have been subjected to outside interference from others wireless sources.
It may have been some kind of short-out.
It may have been ....

The TX and RX I admit are the bits that are dirt cheap and need a bit more money spent.
I have grown up using a Futaba 6 channel transmitter.
I got the Turnigy a couple of years back when I got my 550Hex.
I think it may be time to get a new transmitter...

I see that almost everyone steers towards the Taranis.
But..
Well I am thinking of a historically proven radio maybe another Futaba?

As for it happening on a APM, I hope not my 550 has that installed.

But I tested the failsafe and it worked. oh well....

The gut has calmed down but still ****** as I don';t KNOW why it went..
Already internet-window-shopping... pain relief.

I have never owned one hence posting a link to Petes video.

I have read conflicting statements regarding the 9x being able to do so, however I have seen it demonstrated on an APM equipped machine.

If the APM can react to its failsafe then others can, though it seems so many receivers do this in different ways.

Perhaps zero values are not something that Baseflight/Cleanflight can manage at the moment (seems very little attention has been paid to this aspect of the firmwares)

Though they do cope with a deliberately low value (Orange) and invalid values (D4R-II)

Perhaps somebidy could give it a test?

APM can do FailSafe on Zero PWM just as long as the onboaed PWM to PPM convertor is running the curve m current version of firmware. The ArduCopter wiki has full details where to get it and hire to install it. It works with Turnigy 9x or any Zero PWM RX

Found this which make sense (the posting from Gaucho explains a lot, including why it can work on APM.

Seems on signal loss it outputs 0 on all the channels EXCEPT 4 & 5 which sounds like FlySky messed up their firmware and never bothered to fix it <sigh>

It would be a trivial firmware fix

Can';t read it from here. But if FlySky using AETR then zero PWM on channel 3 will invoke RTL.

There';s nothing wrong with the 9x itself, in fact it';s a damn good tx, I use one quite happily  ::)  A FRSky XJT module and x series rx would make it a good radio  ~~
