Charging 2 3s batteries as one 6s..

I';ve bought a cable from Giant Shark so that I can charge 2 3s batteries as if they were a 6s battery. The comments on giant shark suggest if I connect them in the wrong order I may short my charger.

I';ve attached a picture of how I think they should be connected, is anyone able to confirm if this is correct?

The connections look correct, the packs appear to be in series so the charger is seeing a six cell pack.

Other than perhaps reducing charge time why not just charge them one at a time? Charging as a six cell I don';t think you';ll be able to use your chargers balancing feature (assuming it has one) unless you make up an adapter cable for the balance plugs too?

according to the picture, it DOES have a balance plug adaptor, so he can just charge this as a 6S pack, halving charging times, so long as the charger in question has enough wattage to provide the required charging rate (I';m guessing 1C).

Yikes, he sure does! Sorry about that  :embarrassed

It is good to go, as long as the charger can handle it.

Cool thanks guys, it';s an 80w charger, max 6amp charge so I think should be plenty. Ok, so next potentially stupid question.. Do I add the mah values together or not..? Ie if I';m combining 2 3s 3000mah batteries should I set the charger for a 6s 3000mah battery or a 6s 6000mah?

6s/3000mah (since your charging them in series).

If you';re using them in parallel on your copter you';ll get 3s/6000mah out of them. BTW that';s a nice harness you have there, did the balancing adapter come with it too?

Do you use them in series? or do you fly them separately only charging them in series?
If the latter you could end up with problems, especially if your chargers balance current capability is low, which is quite common.

For example your batts are 3.9v and 4.1v you charge at 2c and the balance can only do 100mah, you can see where this is going.....

I';ll only be using them one at a time but was hoping to use this so I can charge two at a time

The balance adapter came from Giant Shark

as has been said, charging 2 at a time is not a problem SO LONG as the voltages are not too far apart of each pack.

If they are far apart, the higher may try to balance with the lower when you plug it in to the charger.
