Hi all,

Well today was the day i went to collect a parcel from the post office that they had tried to delivery two days prior, i thought it was a letter but to my suprise it was a large box, it had to be the two tri-copter frame';s from HK.

Well back at home out came the knife few second';s later I';m in and yes i was correct two carbon fiber frame kits one for me and one for my nephew for his birthday,I';ve got to say i am very impressed with the quality of this frame.

I';ve only one criticism and that is the tail motor mount assembly the supplied bolt that is meant to connect the two halves together is too long and will not pass through the rear mount, insted i had to source a blot that was threaded its entire length and screw it through the tail boom mount first, once through you can then place bearings and spacer washer on the the bolt then attach the rear motor mount with nyloc nut to the complete tail section then bolt to boom.

shaktar i got the frames from Hobby king they worked out about £50.00 each i think going to run dji 2212/920 motors as i have these kicking around have not decided on esc';s yet still pondering that one as for receiver if memory serves me correctly the orange receivers work with spektrum tranny';s so i may be one of those too. ~~

I use almost exclusively Orange RX';s and have never had a problem with any of them. In fact on the odd occasion I do a range check they have more range than genuine Spektrum gear.

Hi steve yeah i have read the range test can  prove them better than the spektrum rx and at a cheaper price too which is always a good thing ~~

I only have one genuine Spektrum RX and that came with a model. The only reason I can see for folks not using Orange gear is brand snobbery
Steve

Gaza07

Ive used both orange and spektrum rx';s both with no problems but I do tend to lean towards spektrum because I';m a snob  well actually more so because I like to get the newer DsmX receivers  ~~

as this is only a cheap venture with the tri it';ll be an orange rx no snobbery here today lol

Having had my talon tricopter built for a couple of months now,  I';ve never really been keen on the length of the arms when folded out. It all seems a bit......';lanky';.

Was thinking of cutting the arms down to about half the length or more.

This I';m hoping might satisfy my latest desire for a mini rig.

Has anybody tried this or see any reason why it might not work before I make the cut....?

Do it ~~

What';s the worst that can happen
Steve

Yeah think I will. I want to borrow the motors off it and threading the cables through those long arms is a pain in the ****!
Just measured up. Gonna go from 220mm to 100mm. Guess I can always buy more 14mm tube if its rubbish.

A smart man would go from 220mm to 110mm which would give him a spare one for every one he cut ;)

Also, I had to cut the arms on my Talon Quad after breaking one of the arms after a spirited landing ;) and ALL of them splintered badly internally when cut which I';m guessing won';t really improve the strength of them at all, be aware too that the 14mm tubing is a bitch to get hold of, I could only find HobbyKing and another dodgy looking eBay Hong Kong based place that advertised it when I needed some and HobbyKing were out of stock for weeks and weeks, 14mm is a weird OD for carbon fibre tubes from my experience.

robshaw

That would be the logical move but may not be short enough to satisfy my mini desire. :-) Cheers for the heads up on 14mm tube. Your right. It';s not common at all. Weird.

So I cut the arms on the tri down by 110mm. Just took it out for it maiden in the wind and wow! Awesome. Loved every minute of it. Such a pleasure to fly. And such an improvement on the big lanky thing it was previously.
So if anybody had any doubts about trimming down their talon tri I would say do it, without hesitation.
