CC3D support for the WS2812 LEDs

Hi,

Pretty sure this hasn';t been asked before, excuse me if it has. Does the CC3D FC support the WS2812 LED boards?

What if the CC3D was running the Cleanflight f/w... I read it should be possible then? or am I mistaken.

Last time i check it wasn';t implemented on the CC3D yet with clean flight, a few others on the clean flight forum also raised the issue of memory, so im not sure as i thought the CC3D board and Naze board were very similar

Hi,

There are no definitive answers to this combination, odd! The other problem certainly with regards to my setup is that I need to run PPM (single cable rather than 8 cables) from r/x to CC3D freeing up channel pins where I believe the WS2812 LEDs takes power and signal from, so a none starter unless of course someone is aware of a r/x that is compatible with the Flysky FS-T6 that supports PPM?

You beauty! but you dont mess around do you, you only mentioned yesterday that the CC3D does not support the WS2812 LEDs but here we are talking about bits that are on order  I';m going to have to order this lot as well now I suppose

I got a Naze32 a few weeks ago as a backup board, but i still think i will flash the CC3D with clean flight. I like to keep myself busy, already set the 250 up with FPV gear so need something to keep me busy until the weather improves

Well I have ordered that ppm encoder to see what results I get, you will have to keep me posted on how you get on with the f/w swap to clean flight on the cc3d.

PPM encoder should work fine, I am also going to be using it with a FlySky FS T6.

Looking at the weather around here for the weekend, i more than likely will flash the CC3D board with clean flight then. I already have a load of Neopixels on hand so i';ll be able to let you know if the CC3D supports them or not yet.

Off topic I know but I spent a bit more time trying to get mine airborne in the front room (bad idea I know, was only me in there), I was finding putting the CC3D in bank 1 & 2 (selecting with r/hand potentiometer) made the copter surge forward and to the right, whilst in bank 3 it would hover, do you have any thoughts to why this is? Should I re-run the GCS setup wizard? I will ask the same question on the Chinese build thread also.

Its weird hardly anyone uses the ws2812 rgb leds with cc3d so this will be really intresting for anyone looking in.

I already have a load of different Neopixels, I';ve not received my strips I ordered yet. I would recommend picking up a 1000uf 16v Capacitor to stop the strips burning out when you get them. So just waiting on the PPM encoder and them i can make sure they behave as they should, initial testing looks like they should work just fine though.

Are you going to the International drone day in Halifax at the weekend?

Thought you already had PPM encoder, we will probably get them next week (fingers crossed).

I purchased one of the below, its a 8way LED board with what looks to have a line of capacitors and a resistor already there, so probably dont need a 1000uf capacitor?

I only heard about the drone show the other day, would of loved to of gone but its to short notice, having a little one makes going to shows really difficult, its right on the doorstep for me as well (Derby) maybe next year thou.

The caps on the board are only for the signal line, Neopixels work without the 1000uf Cap but will flicker (hard to notice) and this reduces the life of the led, not having a cap also causes voltage surges that can kill them.

My PPM encoder turned up today, nice surprise as I was expecting to wait alot longer. Powered it up from a PC 5v molex connector and it flashes the green on-board LED constantly which is a good start, wont know completely if it works correctly but looking good thus far. Still waiting for the WS2812 RGB LED board to arrive thou  ,  but I have just re-read your post on which capacitor to buy, do you mean 100uf 16v or 1000uf 16v capacitor? Also I have read that I need a 880ohm resistor?

Has your PPM encoder turned up yet Paul? Have you got it up and running yet?

OK cool, I will order those capacitors now 

Still not had chance to test the ppm encoder, but on closer inspection the LED looks to of been replaced really badly, suppose its to be expected as it came from China.

Still no sigh of the CPPM encoder. I have also sold my ZMR 250 and FlySky transmitter and replaced it with a FrSky Taranis  ::) I still plan on finishing this thread but it might have to weight until my new ZMR arrives that I have on order.

Quad seems to be flipping now on initial throttle but I think its down to the motors turning the wrong way, didnt realise but the battery connection was at the front, this meant I had to swap around loads of stuff, all my fault, the joys of being a newbie.

I know how it is, got two little ones myself. I have received the CPPM encoder just waiting of the new ZMR i ordered to arrive.

Got good money for the ZMR and FlySky, pretty much covered the whole cost of the Taranis. I got the Taranis from RCGeeks as i wanted the metal case with the Taranis, and i would highly recommend them as well as T9HobbySport who i recently ordered the D4R-ii receiver and S.Bus to CPPM encoder. I gotta say I';m loving the Taranis and even the missus appreciated the jump in quality from the FlySky transmitter.

Shouldn';t be too much longer and i';ll pick this thread backup, brother inlaw has just received his ZMR at weekend, so i';ll be building that at some point this week and hopefully mine won';t be much longer.

Hope you get your quad sorted, good weather can';t be too far away now
