Are LiPo Batteries moving over to bullet connetor types now ?

Just been looking on HK for some LiPo batteries and noticed that most of them are coming with either 4mm or 5mm bullet connectors.

is this becoming the standard. ??

Turinigy seem to be using 4mm HXT now.. I think the trend to bigger batteries means that manufacturers have to think about load.. so X60/XT90 and HXT are good for these higher currents..

Would a HXT to XT-60 be safe to use. Just trying to keep compatibility with what I have until I can get more batteries that use HXT

I would make an adapter cant see it being a problem as long as your not running a octo of it   ~~

HXTs? Not quite bullets (well, internally maybe), but they have one serious design flaw: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1180337

Ive used loads of shrouded bullet connectors on my helicopters with no problems, of course its best to make sure the manufacturer hasn';t made them with the wrong polarity

Hi

Don';t think there any standard they seem to come with a variety of plugs. Either remove and replace with whatever you standardize to (I use deans for larger jst for smaller batteries) or make up a selection of conversion leads.

Conversion leads are extra weight (those HXTs are chunky!) and another point of failure though, so I';d pick a connector (XT60!) and standardise on it, converting those on your LiPos as needed.

Jumpy07

I think the HXT';s are quite light for their current carrying capability..   the XT60 is 1 gram lighter than an HXT, but the HXT can carry more current similar to XT90. The XT90 is 3 grams heavier.
Either way don';t think weight is an issue...

XT60 4g (Multi end) - Current 60amp +
XT90 - 7g (Multi end) -  Current 90amp +
HXT - 5g (Multi end) - Current 95amp +

Obviously adding converters adds weight an failure points.. so would also recommend picking a connector and standardising on it where possible.

Totally agree
I started with Deans connectors, but  now all my batteries  are with XT60s
I use  them even on my  amp hungry ( 120A!) hotliner  with no problems at all.

Cheers for your replies.

At the moment I have 3 that are on XT60 and one coming that will be on a HXT 4mm so will use a converter plug for the moment till I get more with the HXT and then swap over

Thanks

Hi

I like xt60 was going to change to them until i realized i would have to dig to much stuff out of things that were flyable and lots of old battery leads and and couple of extension leads that were already deans. Interesting that the xt60 can handle that much current i have some batteries which will need a set up which draws more current than deans can cope with so may use them for that when i get a suitable motor and speed controller

Simon

Well deans can handle a lot of current too, but not as much as XT60
Long time ago we  were using deans  in a planes like funjet and  up to 100A, but that amount of current you';d get at full throttle  and  for 3-5 sec only , thats why  they   can handle it.
Same  with XT60.  For a short time   they can handle even 150A and more.

Good point on weight vs. current capability. The HXT has a lot more metal than an XT60, which is probably where my perception of it being chunky came from, but by the same token is why it can carry more current. My main point was about the additional weight and POF of a converter, so probably unfair to pick on the HXT specifically, but I know which I prefer.
