I have done Dynamic Soaring in over 55mph, and quad flying in over 25mph with the right equipment.

I';ve been having a go at making my own arduino based flight controllers for running the Multiwii software on. I don';t expect them to work any better than a bought flight controller, or to save any money, i just did it to try and learn a bit more about circuits and specifically arduino stuff and flight controllers. It has been quite interesting and so far i have 1 that works which has been flying around in my flyduino stunt copter. It performs exactly the same as the bought PARIS flight controllers.



I used the connection diagrams on the additional Multiwii how to thread over at rcgroups;

to work out what went where.

And i used the arduino website;

to learn how to setup the arduino chip on the circuit board (for the first attempt - before i got the arduino nano);

It was fairly straight forward, but the soldering was fiddly. The first couple of attempts did not work properly.



Was the first attempt that worked, with a simple arduino chip.

Then i tried again with the Pro Nano and made a slightly neater one;





One circlip short of a quadcopter.
 1 lobe short of an antenna.

Thanks - and you are right - there is a definite satisfaction in flying and understanding something you';ve built yourself. Now i just need to learn how to program - then i can write the software too! (don';t think that';s happening any time soon lol).

I got the atmegas from ebay - about £3 for 1 already loaded with the boot loader. Get them with the boot loader loaded if you can because it will save you some hassle.

Must have been a great feeling when it flew for the first time, with the added satisfaction of it being all done by your good self.
