Is my internal resistance fine?

Hi All,

As I am in the process of making my first quad build I got myself 8 packs of 4s packs and ISDT D2 charger. Out of 8 5 packs are 900mAh 100C and 3 850mAh at 95C.

I have been reading a lot on the internet on how safely manager LiPo packs, especially as I live in an apartment so I don't have a luxury to charge it outside and I don't have a patch of concrete where nothing can catch fire.

Anyway, as I can see on the net, most of the people keep saying that for a new pack the internal resistance should be between 6 and 10mOhm if I got the numbers right. The D2 charger can tell me the internal resistance if I start the charge task and that is what I did to get my values. I have attached the pictures here and I will let them speak instead of me writing here. I would also like to mention that these packs were never fully charged or flown by me. Basically they are fresh out of the box.
Looking at the values displayed by the charger are these values okay?

I'd need to know the voltage of each cell on arrival and now uncharged (and how long in between), and the balance difference in mV.

Its a rule that on arrival packs should be checked for VOLTAGE balance. They should arrive with a very low difference and between 3.7 and 3.85v each cell.

I mostly use Gaoneng packs, from tiny 1S to large Heli 6S. I have had the odd one arrive out of balance, but it is rare, they are generally good packs. Never used FullSend.

I don't have the voltage pictures at hand but as you, I did check the voltage balance, and like you all of my packs are well balanced out of the box. All Gaoneng sit around 3.85 and very small difference between the cells in a range of 0.01- 0.02. Full send are closer to 3.80-3.81.

Does this help or you really need exact numbers?

No, that's fine.

Personally while I have the ability to check internal resistance, I make no habit of it.

It actually tells you very little until its too late! Gens-Ace is a range I will never buy again, as they started rigidly balanced and even low resistance, then after very few cycles went rapidly unbalanced and to 150 plus resistance and 20-30 seconds of power.

I AM however careful to ensure the packs do not go out of balance. Balancing chargers are not that good at balancing, and my three Batt-Gos are used to haul the packs back to proper balance and then a fish charge IF required (20mV diff or more)

A comment on your motor choice, Cine-Whoop motors are a BAD choice for freestyle, they are designed for load lugging with little variation in throttle, often in prop ducts, and with the quad often in its own downwash.

Freestyle requires good linear throttle response over the whole range, and fast response to changes of throttle.

Bit like a Land Rover Defender and an Audi TT...............  ;)

I guess then I will have just keep an eye on them. I also got batt safe as extra layer of safety, I really don't want smoke or fire in my apartment.

From what I could see as long as you set the charge parameters correctly and you are not trying to charge damaged batteries the risk of something going bad is low.

In the end I went for TBS Podracers, while I might know the theory on picking the motor and numbers until I try few and find the feel that I like those numbers will not have a meaning.
