Adding an external RX to a Mobula7!!!

Well it was a beautiful day with just a little wind   
Yesterday some bits arrived from BangGood, amongst them was an antenna that I needed for an XM+  .
As I am a little scared of damaging my Mobula6 I dug out an old Mobula7 that had a FlySky spi rx which isn't much good. I wondered is there a way to get an external rx and vtx control working?

Maybe by remapping the led strip to control vtx? Well normally yes but the CrazyBeeF3 pro softserial is disabled!!!! Sugar....
So did a bit more digging and found someone made custom FW (BF 4.0.0) that enabled SoftSerial. Installed it no problem but then in Betaflight Configurator the modes tab doesn't work  Again bit more digging and found I needed BF config 10.4.0. Installed that and all good..
Now to solder the XM+ on. That was not too bad at all, moved the vtx control to the led strip pad and then soldered the XM+ sbus to the pad where the vtx control came from.
Put it all back together set BF to correct serial rx port, vtx on soft serial. Set config to be serial and sbus. Now to check rx and set modes. Sugar    Nothing on rx tab. Then I realise    the vtx control pad is a tx pad... sBus needs rx pad     
Disassembled and corrected...

Setup crash protection 'set crash_recovery = ON' in CLi this is not the turtle mode, it stops the quad going into uncontrolled spins after clipping something (it used to be called Yaw Spin Recovery).

So finally out to the garden we go. Running 2x1S 450mAh batts a little heavy but we have a small garden  It flew great, loads of power, a lot faster than the Mobula6!

Overall very pleased, I now have a backup for the Mob6 when I break it!!!!
It does seem a bit more sensitive to air mode bouncing when landing but other than that it's great, I am impressed by the camera although it was very sunny.

I have a Mobula7 HD & i couldn't get it to bind.
i had someone over helping me with Betaflight & binding a couple of models as i hadn't done it back then. Basically Mobula wouldn't bind so it went back in its box & got forgotten about.
as i have a bit of time on my hands now i thought i'd maybe try again, i watched a couple of youtube vids & read some stuff about changing reciever settings in Betaflight "SPI RX support" & then selecting FR sky plus changing D mode on handset etc.
well i never even got as far as that because it won't even connect to Betaflight now 
i really wanted something small & light to learn with as my last experience with a 5 inch quad was predictably dire
it just seems that no matter what you buy, nothing works & nothing talks to each other & i just end up putting it away & losing another 6-9 months where i could be trying to fly. i even have unlimited use of a flying field but can't take advantage of it.
i've ordered new data leads in case thats the problem. find out in a day or 2 i guess..
