Running workshops on Quadcopter building

Drone_Workshop

Hi All,
I am exploring the concept of running workshops to build and fly a quadcopter. Can you please suggest the best options to choose the parts from?

Aim of the workshop is to introduces participants to the technologies involved in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and the techniques involved in making a working Quadrotor. Students/Participants tov practically understand the overall design, configuration and testing of the Quadrotor project.

The parts should be reasonably priced to build a beginner level quadcopter.
Availability should not be as issue (may be multi source options?)

Thanks for your suggestions

:welcome:
It might help us to help you by knowing which country you are in and what your experience level is?
i.e. what quads/planes/cars/helis have you controlled? What radio system are you used to? What FC software are you familiar with.
What sort of quad are you teaching to build, an acro, race, photo platform, follow me etc?
Also a rough idea of the sort of budget you have in mind?

Sorry for all the questions but without knowing your experience it is difficult to recommend parts.
I try :-)

+1 to what ched said, also running that sort of workshop requires a level of knowledge that already knows the answers to those questions doesn’t it?

Dear ched999uk
Thanks for the questions.   :sweating:

You can say I am a beginner in terms of building my own quad but I am keen to learn and master.
For a masters project I studied a lot about building a flapping wing MAV. (not much practice unfortunately)

I am in UK, south west and the target audience is higher school / engineering students.

Budget I was thinking for one quad is £100.

Sorry...  Seriously?  Is this a joke?

A drone building workshop run by an individual that's a self-professed beginner in the subject, and who requires guidance in the basics from an online hobby forum before asking potential victims for £££'s to be taught a fairly complex skillset that the instructor hasn't mastered?

It must be a joke, 'cos it's the funniest thing I've heard today!

UAVfurtures $99 build comes to mind

but that does not include a tx/rx, batteries or vrx
so pretty pointless, RC is not a hobby you can do on the cheap unless you go for cheap RTR/RTF

Not to be rude but to teach people you need knowledge. Without extensive knowledge you will get stuck big time. £100 budget sort of shows your lack of knowledge.

I don't think any of us here would would not be willing to help you learn but I think you need a basic understanding of things before you build a quad let alone contemplating teaching others to build what can be very dangerous thinks. Think razor sharp 5" props spinning at thousands of rpm and students!!!

Have a look at the build threads,  Josh Bardwell, Painless360 or Project Blue Falcon (RiP) on youtube. There are masses of info to give you ideas.

If you are interested in learning please post what you want to build and your guess at components and I am sure you will get all the help you need.
I try :-)

DW.
So trying to help-
1. There are massively different types of drone, but £100 isn’t gonna get you off the ground with any of them. Even the cheapest radios and reciever will take half that budget.
2. A’s Ched said May are happy to help. Where in the south west are you?
3. There is a raft of specialist knowledge on quadcopters. Guides like the ones Ched references such as Lee (Painless) are great until something goes wrong and it doesn’t work properly, that is when the specialist knowledge comes in and that would be what you need for a workshop

I am saying nothing.

Actually I am thinking about doing a ballet workshop, for the under 9's.

Should be great  ~~

I might as well join in with my new business venture also....

I'm going to try some minor operations and medical procedures this weekend, just things like face lifts, vasectomies, might even try some open heart surgery if all goes well.
I'm a beginner, but read plenty of books.
Give me a shout if you need owt doing, will give huge discounts for members on here.

Longer ago than I care to think, (2000) I was faced with (a) learning to drive a range of oddly controlled very old vehicles and (b) teaching others!  I bit like our friend here contemplates.

It's only driving a vehicle, I have had a license for donkey's yonks, so easy, no problem, right?

Well , we are talking a large ungainly bus, with tiny mirrors, poor vision, no windscreen wiper, no speedo, centre throttle right brake, push on handbrake, no synchromesh reverse gate right hand gearbox with clutch stop, rear brakes only, narrow tyres, and a cone clutch that was either fully in or out, no slide. I drove it fairly well after four short sessions, but recognised that was NOT enough.

It was a year PLUS and a lot of hours on type (driving it off public road) before I was confident enough to go out of the gate into public space or crucially to train anyone else.

The OP is missing ALL the basics to achieve what he wants, and no amount of advice here will make a Ha'porth of difference at this time. Come back in six months with a video to show you flying well and more importantly safely within the law and we'll advise further.

We are a cynical sarcastic bunch at times, but it's all meant in good humour
People wanting to know about flying objects are definitely in the right place !
