X4R-SB both LEDs on, what does it mean ?

Hi,

I';m trying to bind my Taranis X9D+ (OpenTX 2.1.6) with X4R-SB and I';m just unable to manage to do that.
Holding F/S button and then powering up brings both LEDs ON (red&green) and they stay solid. It';s not explained in the manual what does it mean. All other LED combinations are explained except this one.

When I disconnect the battery and power up again I get only RED flashing so the binding failed.

I have my Taranis in D16 mode.
The Taranis is LBT-EU version and X4R-SB I have no idea whether it';s EU or non-EU, I don';t know how to tell, it';s the black one.

I tried to flash X4R-SB with latest available firmware (X4R_LBT_build151118) just in case current firmware is non-eu or non-lbt but it failed as well.

To upgrade the firmware I followed the FrSky instructions, I used the the cable that comes with the X4R-SB (4-wire smart port connector at one end and flat 3-wire connector at the other end) and connected it exactly as per the attached picture as shown in the FrSky document :
[attachimg=1]

I';m assuming once connected with Taranis powered up I should see some LED but both LEDs are OFF. When I proceed with the firmware upgrade (selecting "Flash External Device") it starts "writing..." but quits instantly and exists the upgrade screen.

Also I don';t understand why the smart port end has 4 wires but the Taranis external module connector has only 3 incoming wires (the white wire is not connected anywhere).

Do you know how to tell what';s the current firmware version on my X4R-SB, what is the status when both Red&Green LEDs are ON, and what am I doing wrong that I';m unable to flash X4R-SB with latest firmware ?

Thanks
Pete

Hi mate,
You can';t tell what firmware is in it, but it is easy to flash it.

First thing is update open tx to the latest version, if you don';t know how to do this, painless360 has a nice easy YouTube guide.

Next thing is take the sd card out the taranis, plug it into your PC and download the latest lbt firmware for both your internal Jr module and the x4rsb, store both in the firmware folder on the sd card, take it out the PC and put it back in the taranis

Update the internal module with the latest firmware.

Then use the guide below to update the x4rsb (he does an x8r but the process is the same, you use the smartport cable, I tack it to a servo cable, watch the +ve and grounds

The final thing is use d16
Most of that you have but I think your opentx version is probably what is tripping you up trying to flash
