My Cine Whoop

Quite a while ago now (six months ish!) I decided to build a Cine Whoop. No idea why, as I'm not into video for video's sake, only as a means to see what is going on with a quad.

SO, looking around, I found what I wanted in Thingiverse.

The frame printed first time OK in transparent PETG on my i3 Mk3.  It was designed for 14xx motors and std sized FC stack.

I'd just bought an FC from Banggood, mainly as it was new and in UK stock. I already had a RacerStar 4x30A ESC board.  Could I get the two to work together?  NO  :lipsrsealed:

I put it to one side, and ordered another Matek FC, a type I had several of working well, and its matching ribbon connect PDB. Would this work with the 4xESC?  NO

I was struggling anyway as the std sized stack was a complete bar steward to fit and wire up, no room to work inside the duct centre area and nowhere to lose the wires if you tried to wire it just clear and then wangle it all in.   :banghead:

So, I put it to one side and ignored it.......................  ;)

Then the new Mamba System F4 stack came out in 20mm, and so I ordered one. I was going to put it into a 3D printed 2", but on reflection the ESC part was more than capable on paper at least of handling the RacerStar 1407 motors.

SO, I fitted it and flew it to test. It flew, no point in tuning sicen it would get a fair bit more weight with the FPV and Video gear.

After some deliberation over whether top fot an old camera/VTX  or a new TrampHV and Foxeer camera, a decision which came down on the side of the latter to take advantage of the TRAMP's flexibility in setting frequencies and power output.

Fitted this pairing, worked straight away quite well.

Fitted the video camera mount (a trial one), and..............

No Receiver action in FC.   ARRRGGGGHHH!!!   :frantic:

So I dismantled the just completed camera mount and removed the top cover to gain access, and found the SBus connection had sheared off the FC. Maybe I nicked wires when stripping and the solder did not penetrate past that point, soldering quickly. It was not a dry joint, the wire end was on the pad.

I Managed to keyhole solder it back so at least the board did not have to come out, the advantage of a 20mm stack and its better clearance  (again).   :sweating:

Now its all back together, the Quad flies, the FPV works, but its now gone too windy (AGAIN) to sort out the PIDS and check for jello in FPV and video, etc.

Anyhow, as requested, some pictures:-

Forgot to say, the props are Dalprop 3" tri square tip paddles which as the frame printed needed a tiny amount of easing to clear the ducts.

That's one thing that happens quite a bit to my printing from others files, the size as printed not being perfect to expected dimension. I should by now just apply scaling to all prints where size is critical, but hey, that requires intelligence  :blink  :wack0

looks like a nice tidy build.  is that a 2S battery?  will be interested to see how it flies.

Thanks.  No,  not 2S its one of my clapped out (and never very good) 1500 3S of low C rating that probably only gives the power of 2S, just used for setting up on Betaflight, etc!!   :D

I have flown it this afternoon on a good 90C 2200mAh 3S (which is a bit heavy but it flies at only a little over half stick).

I intend to fly it on my ACEHE 1500mAh 4S packs once I have the settings correct, its getting there slowly, but the winds today are not helping. Indoors in the kitchen its nicely stable and sounds good, but outside in the swirling 20mph upwards wind its hunting on revs to find the right power and the gusts are pushing it around AND sometimes even causing uncommanded yaw, so I have stopped for the day!!   :blink

Tomorrow, if as forecast, should be much better  :waiting: .
