Hello,

I am looking to build my first quad, having had previous RC experience and looking to get started in freestyle flying. Having spoken to Cheredanine a few times about frame possibilities I have been compiling a list of possible components in the hope of some feedback.

Frame: Chameleon / Lumenier 210
Motors: Suggestions Required
Props: Suggestions Required
ESC: SPEDIX GS 30A BLHELI 32 BIT
FC: Helio Spring
PDB: Armattan Mini / Open to suggestions
VTX: TBS unify
VTX antenna: Menace Raptor
Cam: Not required atm
RX: FrSky XM+

These are just preliminary suggestions having read through many many builds, but being new to all of this there could be compatibility issues etc. Also I am ok at soldering but by no means a professional, so if some of the components are a bit fragile in the soldering area please let me know.

Hi mate, motors, -lots of options,
If you can afford it, t-motor f40 pro ii or brother returner r6 - good, durable, general motors.
You could go with brother r4 or r5, both good motors, but the r6 has a bearing upgrade, that will give them longer life.
There are a lot of other options, some are specialised for build or purpose.
As a general rule cheap motors will be poorly balanced, have poor build quality/components or are inefficient/low power
(Personnaly if I was building a chameleon I would take the brother r6 right now)

Other mid range stuff that I have tried and are good (but not as good as above) include
Cobra Champion series
Armattan oomph

Equally the new emax range are interesting

Props
Gemfan wind dancers
As a second place
HQ5x4.3x3v1s
And as an interesting alternative
DAL cyclone t5040C - this will give you less top end but as a beginner that is unlikely to effect you, i would say they may be the best choice to start on.

No argument with the F.C. -big thumbs up

ESCs - as long as blheli32 with high enough rating - no argument. But you may want to try 4 in 1 - that will remove the need for the pdb. (Eg Spedix gs32, omnibus typhoon32 etc)

I believe the Helio Spring has a 2.5Amp 5v regulator and takes vbat so I don't think you need a pdb. That said it might make the build simpler if you do use the one you suggest. One thing is that you probably don't need the voltage regulators on the pdb so there might be a better pdb out there.

Components look good don't forget to post build pictures.

The standard helio spring does have a 5v reg and can take lipo power but it has no pads for ESCs or xt60, you would need a pdb, 4in1 esc on the old style rats nest wiring harness.

There is a new version referred to as an aio which has a built in PDB though

In terms of the 4 in 1 ESC can you imagine there being an issue with stacking height on the frame. In previous build logs I have seen people went the way of separate ESC’s for this reason?

Apart from reducing components what would the advantages / disadvantages be of a combined PDB / FC

This is a helio spring with Spedix GS35A 4 in 1. The build is low (20mm standoff, the side plate means there is more like 17mm stack height max and I still have plenty of room stack height is about 10mm to the top of the F.C. and 12 or 13mm allowing for securing bolts from the carbon base plate
