New build works on cleanflight but is crazy when using transmitter!!

Hi!

This is my first quadcopter build and I';m confused.

Everything seems fine on cleanflight, motors spin at the same time and all in the right direction by using the master controller.

On the receiver tab, all of the coloured bars are responsive to the input from my transmitter

I';ve set one aux switch to arm - this seems to be working fine.

Here is the problem -

Power up the quadcopter and transmitter, then flip the switch to arm it and it beeps (I';m guessing this means the arm switch has worked!)

I move the throttle stick up slowly to see if anything happens, nothing will happen but then instantly all motors will be on full power!!  :o With no response if I put the throttle all the way down, it will carry on.

I';ve set up the fail safe, this works, because if I switch the transmitter off the motors will stop.

Does anybody know what this could be??

Thanks,
Luke

All sorts of stuff

Not least the possibility that I term wind up or min throttle can be deceptive for a new person.

Let';s see if we can help

1. Have you calibrated the escs?
2. What esc protocol you using (pwm, oneshot, multishot, dshot)?
3. What is min throttle set to?
4. On the reciever tab what values does your throttle stick go to?

Mi96ke

ive got a very similar problem using libre pilot and cc3d revo mini, keep us updated whe you find the solution?

Harty

I had a very similar problem and looking back I think there may have been an embarrassing cause..... check you have the correct props on the correct motors. I think I had the directions crossed on mine and it was exactly the same.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into how my esc';s are set up and see if I come up with anything!

As for the props, I';ve not even thought of putting them on yet!

phantomluke

I';ve updated the firmware on my ESC';s and Flight controller and things are looking better, using oneshot125. The motors all respond to my transmitter now,

but they';re not all in sync with each other, even after calibrating.

pushing the throttle up 3 motors start at the same time but one starts later

If I push roll or pitch two motors start up exactly the same time, even the slow one thats behind when i press the throttle. is that strange?

also, with my throttle midway when all motors are spinning if i try to roll, two of the motors will completely stop, is this normal?
This is all with props off!

thanks for the help

You need to set minimum throttle so that all motors spin up at same time. PROPS OFF and set up in CF.

As for motors stopping when roll. Doesnt sound too bad but if you are thinking about doing any acrobatics you might need to look at a higher min throttle. I think on BF there is Airmode which sorts this out.

When you pitch forwards the FC reduces the speed (reduces thrust) of the front motors to allow the front to pitch down. It will continue to reduce front motor speed until the front drops to where your tx told it to. To the extent that it will stop motors to try and achieve the pitch down you commanded.

The issue is when doing flips, rolls etc if the motors stop you cant get them going again so you crash! Airmode also gives full PID authority to FC at low throttle so control is maintained. This does lead to issues trying to land  ::)

The above is my interpretation of my understanding. If I am wrong please correct me.

One other thing, it would appear that the most popular FC software is currently BetaFlight. There seem to be so many more newer youtube vids on BF than on CF. So might be worth following the crowd and flashing BF, there might be more help out there?
I try :-)

phantomluke

Thanks for the info!

This thing is that the two other motors will completely stop at the slightest touch of pitch, then I can';t use throttle if I';m moving pitch

It';s like I can only use one input at a time?

Hopefully I am right here, but I think it';s just because you have commanded pitch and the FC is doing everything in its control to pitch forward but your quad (and thus gyro signals) have not moved so the error is large. So the most the FC can do to try and pitch forward is to give zero thrust to front motors.

I think it will be OK when you fly as when you command forward pitch, the front motors will slow. The FC will see from gyro that the pitch has gone forward so it will use the PID loops to get the pitch to the commanded value. So it should be OK in the air.

Maiden flight is always scary, just make sure props are on correctly (both direction and not upside down), give yourself space, and take things very gently.
I try :-)

That makes sense, do you think I could test this. Y disableing the gyro?

ched

Not sure about bench test.

There some people who put props on indoors and carefully hold quad while using tx with other hand and feel how quad is trying to move. This is very dangerous!!!!!!!!

If the correct motor spins the correct way (PROPS OFF) via the CF motor controllers and you put the props on the correct way when ready to fly you should be OK.

If you are not experienced I would say make sure you have set the flight mode to a stabilised one. Give your self lots of space with no people/dogs/property around so if it doesn';t fly as predicted you can come down safe. Try and pick a non windy day. Grass is a good medium to crash/land on as it';s much softer than concrete!!! I flew my first quad on a local deserted beach. I say flew it was more like hover then zoom off and crash

Thanks for the help!!

I did a hover test today and it flys and Is really steady in the air!

Some of the motors spin while armed on the ground, it seems like it';s trying to balance itself out, is that right? I thought none of the motors would spin until I press the throttle?

Thanks again

Cheredanine

If you don';t want the motors to spin on min throttle enable motor stop
(Be careful, air mode will over ride)
Most fliers want the motors to spin at min throttle, it causes less problems in flight

However it sounds like your min throttle is too close to your start up value
