Laser method, I think so far works best,

Phone method

same idea but use a phone with a seismometer app instead to measure the vibes.
I found mounting the phone to a wooden arm like in the laser method was easiest.

I think the laser method is more accurate since you can put a piece of paper on the wall and mark it for each tie wrap position, it also allows you to see the affects of your balance on harmonic vibrations at lower rpm.

Mark 6 to 8 positions on the motor then put a tie wrap around it, moving it from position to position and measuring each time to find where weight is needed, add weight on low kv motors using strong tape like gorilla or duck and on high kv use a dab of thick superglue and hit it with activator.

If your feeling really anal you can move the tie wrap up and down the can to see if there';s any benefit placing the weight further up or down.

Hope this helps.

Thank for that info - I have actually seen the laser method of balancing some time ago but completely forgot about it. I';ll give it a go and let you know how I get on

It is ne of those things that takes a little perfecting, just stick with it and you should see some good results.
Lemme know how you get on.
