lipo alarms

What are my options? The balance lead is plugged into my vtx so no chance of using the plug n play types but my soldering skills aren';t up to that much that I could solder to the board.
I';ve already run a semi brand new lipo to death so I really need an alarm of some kind.

Battery alarm is a must, you can get a balanced splitter to feed both the vtx  and alarm or sharpen your soldering skills and do it yourself. Or a PDB with bec. Either way, you need an alarm ! [emoji6]

SaneBrady

Balance splitter you say? I';m on it :)

Personally I find lipo alarms almost useless due to voltage sag, you would be better off timing your flights or better still if your transmitter does telemetry use that to monitor the voltage.

Would go with the timer (and telemetry if available) as I used to get less than a minute before the alarm started to whine if I dared to go to 70% throttle.

It';s annoying and if you are flying with others they will get irritated with you ;)
Not much kit, but what I have I like

I have a lipo alarm with adjustable voltage warning level. As mentioned there is a voltage ';sag'; issue so I had to find the right voltage by trial and error of when I actually am running out of juice.

I started at 3.7v/cell. fly until alarm goes, plug in lipo and recharge noting the number of mAh put back in. Next time round I go down 0.1v and repeat. Once I get the correct voltage to get the amount of mAh I want to use then thats the voltage I use for my alarm.

I also time my flights on my tx and use that as my primary indication of when to land, but the lipo alarm is my ';failsafe';.

Gonna go with the timing method until I either upgrade tx/rx or add an osd.
Cheers.

Just started playing with the micro minimosd. Wow this thing is small, as small as a 5p piece. It has 2 battery voltage monitoring pins and timers that auto reset when you arm. I am currently about to test gps connected to it.

It';s a great little osd and only £7.39 on ebay!
I try :-)

you can also have a "simulated" current sensor on the minimosd if it has mwosd software on it, so you can see how many "mah" you have used , its surprisingly accurate once set up.

Remember that adding weight to the model, or flying it more adventurously will reduce flight time, so keep a bit up your sleeve. Adding fpv gear reduced my flight time by about 2 minutes.

Hence the reason I really need osd,it';s too easy to get lost in the moment when I';m behind the goggles. so far it';s only the one lipo I have murdered but I paid premium price for it at the local hobby store. Having to solder to the board really puts me off though, I';m a welder/fabricator by trade so small finite controlled use of my shaky hands is a bit of a handicap,  if I could convert a welding torch into a wire fed soldering iron then it would be much much easier  for me ~~

That';s interesting. Any ideas on a good tutorial?
