Hopping quad

Hi,

It has been a while since ik have been on the forum, and with quads. I had a old multiwii board and a frame laying around so i decided to order 4 motors and a 4in1 esc (hobbyking) to make it a complete quad again.  Loaded multiwii 2.2 on the board and just went out. Now everything works well, even gps fix. But as soon as i throttle up, the quad starts hopping around. Any idea what that could be?

Have you calibrated the ESC after setting it all up?  Got any video of what is happening?

Similar story, I decided to make an H quad and used the KK2.1 and 4 no. 750Kv motors and 4 escs from the q450.  Flys ok but seems to jump up and down.  Very difficult for it to stay level.  I could probably fix it with some expo but its bugging why it would do that.  It used to fly great on my Q450.

i did calibrate the esc. When in horizontal mode and when i tilt the quad, the motor spins constant to level the quad, so it is not the esc i think. maybe reflash it with 2.3?

well, got some time again, and reflashed multiwii 2.2 and recalibrated esc';s, but still the same hopping problem. 

just hooked up the esc';s and motor directly to rx, and no "hopping" of the engines. so i asume it is the flight controller

Are you using Baro mode at all? Try without if you are.

but with or without baro, same situation. btw i still have default PID';s. That is how it used to fly.
Now i don';t dare to lift off.

why not multiwii 2.3?
anyway, had similar problems, try the low pass filter to the gyro on the config.h, called lpf, start with 42hz, i got as low as10hz in my vibrating build....

That definetly sounds like a vibration issue
Upgrade firmware to latest version make sure you clear eprom.
And ensure low pass filter is defined .. Increase filter rate until stable
Then I would try and find the source of vibration and sort it.

Too much filter will make your quad sloppy and unflyable.

Thanks GlookingMing, I think its a motor winding issue. I reloaded the board with 2.3 and it stopped hopping but when its in the air it still randomly surges a bit. This only happens to 3 of the motors as I changed out one of the motors to a new one. Its not that suprising these motors are shot, I got them in June and this is my first quad so they';ve seen they';re fair share of big big crashes.
