Upgrading a V1 Naza to V2 Spec - FAQ

Naza V1

The Naza V1 can be upgraded but there are some things to watch out for..

GPS - The V2 GPS does not work with the V1 Naza, reports are however that the only performance difference between the V1 GPS and V2 is that the V2 has a SAW filter built in.  The GPS used on the Naza Lite is the same as the one used on the V1 Naza.

If you wish you can modify the V1 GPS and install a SAW filter.. but this is very fiddly. The SAW filter improves the performance of the GPS especially around other transmitters or noisy RF enviroments.

Detail of how to install the filter can be found here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1863430

LED UNIT - The V2 LED was not intended to be installed on the V1, but a simple resistor mod can enable this... as below: (330ohm)

PMU - The main upgrade that most people will want to do is the PMU, this is to enable the use of the DJI OSD, Gimbal or Bluetooth App. The PMU is a simple upgrade, however you may require to upgrade the firmware of the Naza to enable new functions. The firmware for the Naza V1 is shared with the V2 now and is exactly the same firmware. You can continue to use your existing LED LED unit as the diagram below, or you can do the LED resistor modification as above to use the V2 LED Unit.

NOTE: The Naza Lite cannot be upgraded, its effectively a V1 Naza as was.

This is the V2 PMU plugged into the Naza V1

The PMU plugs into the V1 Naza in two places, the X3 port and the EXP Port
Your old GPS then plugs into the new PMU.
The PMU has a 3a UBEC built in.

Hi jumpy
Just a few questions about the naza lite and the naza v2.Is the v2 a better option than the lite, what kind of performance can you expect from the v2.

Is it the same control panel on the computer as the lite or do you have to down load a different panel.

I have just bought one complete system.

Flight performance is the same for Lite, V1 and V2...    (V2 and Lite have  better GPS than V1 in terms of time to lock)

V2 offers Canbus so that you can add IOSD, Datalink, Zenmuse etc...  this is not possible on the Lite..

Lite is very good value for money if you dont need the other functionality..

Handy to know is that some of the later V1 naza-m have a resistor already installed so are compatible with the new remote led unit.

Use a multimeter across the two pins marked in Jumpys post and if it reads 330ohms then you';re good to go, no mod required.

Old post bump but thanks for this!! I have a V1 and was about to buy a V2...looks like i can just upgrade it :D Saved me a few bob ha Cheers Jumpy

Anyone have the resistor mod pic? I can';t see it.

Cheers

If you';re not very good at soldering the resistor onto the  vu, I know I';d probably short something, you can connect a wire to the red wire in the LED loom and connect it to a spare output on the vu.
I';ve done this and it works, so if I can do it . . . .

Gary

Thanks For the info as iv just picked up a Naza M v1

Hi
I';ve just bought a LITE system, the FC box has the 330R resistor fitted (a nice surface mount device although the leaded type shown in the upgrade photos works fine)  I';ve tried this FC on both LED';s (red and yellow labels) and both work fine

I did the upgrade to V2 v4.02 software, worked fine only issue was that the update window did not pop-up automatically, I clicked the update link and then it appeared.
Many thanks to the team that developed this procedure, clever work. I';ll be donating !

A couple of questions please if any body can help.
Now it';s upgraded to 4.02 it now offers an upgrade to 4.04 and another to 4.06  Is it OK to proceed with these updates or will the DJI server detect the mod from LITE and through a wobbly?
If anybody has done this please let me know if all is OK

PS.. I added a SAW filter to my GPS unit, brilliant, it now sees 9 or 10 satellites in my back garden

I accidentally did a 4.04 upgrade accidentally and locked the naza up. So had to do a reset and go through the process again. So wouldn';t bother trying.

Stevietee

Thanks for the reply Richard
A reply to the same question on another post said that DJI have latched onto this and will log the serial number and lock the motors if a further update is done.
I';m going to leave mine at 4.02

Hi Guys, I decided to get back in the air and got a new Naza M Lite and tried the upgrade, when I launched the Administrator just said no upgrade available, have Naza blocked the ability to do the simple upgrade of the lite to V2.2

To answer my problem I tried 3 laptops and finally got one to work. ::)
