Tiny build
« on: January 11, 2017, 20:26:32 »
Finally got enough. It's to start putting it together.

Instructions for the frame are simple enough tho the screw are so small that I'm bound to lose one.

Didn't get very far tonight but should do some more tomorow.

I'm going to trim the motor wires to the shortest I can get away before soldering it all together

Fun fun fun

Which Motors are they if DYS Micro then do not trim the wires just lose the excess somehow.

Dont ask How I know but the wires on DYS 110x motors are crap and very difficult to work with.

You used rotorx motors?i fitted all 4 1104 4000 to mine,i didnt have motor mounting bolts so had to buy some of ebay but i found i couldnt quite get the bolt through the motor mounting hole, ended up having to use a round hobby file to enlarge the holes a bit more to allow the bolts to slip through easily.

I got pretty much same fc and esc to come buy banggood held items for 7 days as 1 item wasnt in stock and took em that long to contact me to ask me what to do,so some stuff shipping late.

I am gonna use a 1/4 cmos 600tvl and use a new eachine tx unit, not an all in 1 unit.i ordered some of them dys tris (think 2") off banggood, also yet to ship due to stock issue.

What you think of the frame?i like it but time will tell if it hits hard objects!

Interested to see what yours looks like and weighs (reminds me to buy a digital scale) and flys like.

They are dys 7000kv motors and they came with suitable screws :)

In regards to the frame itself. There was a little bit of delamination but nothing to worry about. Certainly seems robust!

I'm yet to order props, batteries and an rx.

So the question is why can't I shorten the cables?

Now got all 4 motors on the frame and the esc. Now to solder the motor wires to the esc....

It's a bit fiddly

Trimmed the first 2 cables then decided it wasn't worth it. Those cables are a swine to solder

If the wires are like rotorx I am with ya!skinniest wire core I have ever come across and weird rubbery insulation :blink

I got my picoblx today, think that's what you got there, from Banggood?i bought that and another 20x20 similar to it also,Banggood held up the esc in another order just coz some props were not in stock!!!!

Am watching as I have never done a 4in1 to a fc with pdb built in,you gonna power the battery to the esc or fc and connect the power points or vice Versa?

Not sure which way round I'm going to power it. Probably esc to fc... however I have messed up on soldering tab 4 and have bridged the tab with the chips terminals. Then my iron ran out of gas so need to get some more before I try and repair the damage.

It is sooo very very fiddly however

I assume that you are tinning the wires before you try and solder them to the esc pads? Tinning both the pad and the cables before placing them together to solder will make it a much easier and reliable job.

I am yes. Or well trying too. The motor wires seem to be a single core and so small they don't suck up the solder like multicore cable

So curl them, expose enough wire, get a toothpick or something and twirl the wire into a circle, flux and tin.

I am eyeing up racestar 1407,this frame on 1407,there's a new esc/fc micro tower yet to be released that will more likely do 3-4s,with that in there the frame will shatter with a 75% punch!

It's not that they don't suck up solder ... they are lacquered ... you need to scrape, burn or do something to remove the lacquer

I'm going through the same hassle at the moment .... considering scrapping them for something else!!

So I broke my esc while soldering. Bother! Managed to bridge the connections on one of the chips near to where the solder tabs are for the motors. Have to order a replacement now :(

Post a pic of the damage mate there might be a member who can help you out,it's better than trashing it,also remember you can do 3 esc/motor builds depending what esc is lost.

Post a decent pic of damage and see if anyone can help you out.

At £20 a pop don't write off just yet.

I did try and take a pic but it's so small that you just can't get a good one. Basically the little chip near the pad all the pins are now bridged and it's beyond my ability to resolve. But at £20 I just ordered another one. Needed to order the props anyway lol

Get a solder sucker but it might be worth using a croc clip to hold the component in place whe you suck the solder away. I have never really go on with desolder braid but you can sort of make your own with the shielding of co axial aerial cable (tv/sat type). Heat the braid up with the iron a few mm away from end of braid, then when braid hot enough, touch the solder you want to remove and it should be wicked away from the component.

Its worth a try as currently you consider the esc dead. Plus you might learn a new skill

Good Luck

I may be wrong ... and i'm sure somebody will correct me

But i think all three pads go to your solder tab anyway!!

Get a multi meter and test on a pad you didn't bridge!

Or ... just plug it in and see if the smoke comes out!

Yep,i am expecting some, ordered like 3weeks ago and they were not in stock at that time, hopefully they correct the issues people commented about.

I just need props and a decent 2s battery to get my aurora up in air.

Then i want to build a couple more brushless micros, already ordered a couple more frames, escs and motors etc.

Suppose the battery connector depends on the 2s batterys connector,i have installed a 2pin plug and socket type (the red one) as a lot of 2s batterys have the 2 pin red plug type.

I am just unsure what batterys to buy, more likely 450 2s with a 50+c rating.

Just gonna wait till i got a working set of props on mune, test it with this crappy old 2s i have on my fatshark goggles.when i know i got hover i will shop for the batterys.

Luckily a micro fc i got from banggood came with the suitable connector.

Right after waiting for a replacement esc I now have it soldered to the motors and other than my soldering sucking terribly I haven't bridged anything (win)

Now to turn my attention to the fc and how to connect it.... not quite worked that out yet (might have been smarter to start with something bigger for my first proper build)

Solder 4in1 esc to esc power near main power in on fc,solder battery wires to the battery power in.

It works, using pretty much the same,i had it on my aurora build but moved the gubbins over to a bobo 95.
