I have seen a Multicopter motor pack apear on Robotbirds New items
http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=456&products_id=7109&osCsid=e896df363e81c0be823249b3fd3499a8

seems to be the same as sold by a number of shops.

Mine just turned up this morning, looks slightly different to the picture however.

Nice find they look like decent quality motors, look forward to seeing how you get on with them,
its nice to see a uk dealers with good prices  ~~

Any chance of a picture of what you actually got Tim  ;)

They are actually Anodised Red (Not Black).

The prop adapter is built into the bell & has two flats which engage in the supplied props, to prevent slipping.
Not sure if I like that or not, in a crash or knock it better to have a bit of slip!

Can't see any reason why a std prop can't be fitted, though there isn't any knurled surface like you get on a regular prop driver.

Build quality & packaging seems good.

Tim.

MadMax

They do look very nice and a good price to when you consider your getting a pair of props to,
the only thing I cant work out is the built in prop adapter looks a bit short, on the back of the card it says the thread is only 7mm long, does the prop fit over the bit under the thread ?

Yes the prop fits over the boss below the thread.
As to the supplied props, they seem quite brittle to me.
If (as I suspect) it's the same motor as supplied with the DJI flame wheel sets, these are know to break in flight & for this reason I won't be using them.

To fit other makes of props you need to drill out (or ream out) the bosses to 8mm.
I have found this quite easy to do using a step drill (which has 1mm steps).
So far I have tried APC 10x3.8 and Flouro multirotor 10x4.5 props and booth seem to have enough thickness on the boss to take 8mm hole.

I setup one of these on my test stand to measure thrust and current draw.

APC 10x3.8 SF, I/max=15.01A
Thrust/g   I/A
300          3.96
400          7.20

Multirotor 10x4.5, I/max=13.98A
Thrust/g   I/A
300          4.78
400          7.58

Results taken at 11.1V (3s), the thrust values of 300g & 400g arn't at full power.

I am going to be running these on a 22A ESC, which should be fine.

Looks like these are going to perform very well then  ~~ I was going to ask the same question madmax asked as i wasnt sure by looking at the picture how they fitted,
The way you describe make the prop very close to the motor unlike other motor / prop adapter combp's which has to be a good thing, and with the prop adapter being machined into the motor bell housing it should be very accurate also a very good design as long as you dont bend one,
looking forward to your test flight results and maybe a video  ~~

Hi Tim any news with these motors yet ?

No not yet, not had time to get my quad finished.
Should do in the next few weeks though.

Tim.

Rappy Freak

Any news on how these perform in flight?  Looking at getting 6 for my Scorpion to try and get better flight times as with the iPower 2217 880Kv ones I have I only get 4 mins  on 3s 4400
SkyNet shall rise!!!!!!

peter_a

Anyone purchased any of these motors ? .
Looking for same cheap motor , which I don`t have to wait 30 days for.
These motors look the same as the dji or tarot , but half the prices and with props.

Gaza07

It doesnt look like toolman will be reporting back seeing as its been such a long time since the original post   :beer2:

I got 4 last week and they';re very nice quality and they came in black. They seem quieter than the DJI motors as well.

Rappy Freak

I have 6 of them on my Y6 and think they are very good.  I have had a number of flights using them with no problems.   ::)
SkyNet shall rise!!!!!!

powerlord

That';s the ones I fitted to be new quad. Loads of power - 0-1800 feet in 30 seconds with 1.5kg all up weight and 8x4.5 props

They look to be a direct replacement for the standard DJI motor - are they exactly the same motor with different branding or a direct copy? Do DJI make motors or are they these bought in from the manufacturer in the same way as Ford, Vauxhall et al repackage oil and air filters made by Fram to sell at a higher price?

peter_a

Thanks , I guess the word "too good to be true" may be wrong , and you can get good value products .

So later today someone stock level of MAX MULTI COPTER MOTOR 2212-920Kv motors is going to drop by 6.

You will find (obviously with some exceptions) that a lot of these branded products are manufactured by one of a few companies in China and then rebranded/claimed by the reselling company just like car manufacturers do.

I doubt there are many companies out there that could afford to make their own bespoke motors or ESC';s.
Steve

peter_a

yep , you will find that a lot of home brand televisions , Techwood , Logic etc , have the same firmware installed , where all the menu all look the same.
Strange, Just like they are made in the factory !!!!

macspite

Just a thought regarding these:

I run standard DJI branded motors (probably these!)  but replace the nice anodised prop nut with an M6 nyloc nut as I have noticed the stock nuts coming loose in flight.

If you aren';t running DJI props on these then a flat serrated washer under and on top of the prop stops it moving on the shaft.

Good link ... just ordered 4 myself for the next project which will be my first go at FPV .... so we';ll see  :frantic:

Think I might get some for the Tricopter I';ve just ordered a kk2 fc for!
I';ve got a few e-max motors in my Planes and have found them reliable.

I have 3 Emax motors that go in my Depron builds and have no complaints with them. Certainly reliable

They';re on special offer now as well at £9.95, but they';re out of stock as well :cry

peter_a

What at http://www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk ?

I tried to order 6 then same day the offer came out ( a couple of weeks ago ) and got a there isn`t 6 in stock , so I  tried to order 4 and still wasn`t that amount in stock ( or 2 ) , so I guess the offer motor as now been sold !!!!!

DT

They cam sell them as cheap as they want when they haven';t got any  ::)

I ordered 4 of these from unmanedtech on Saturday. seemed like a good deal being as they come with props...and I can never have enough props!
glad reports seem to be good. and I like that the adapter is built into the motor too. no more worries about if the prop adapter is causing vibes or not.

I given my hex load of motors a real good test and I can`t find fault with them so far.
During that time they have had some hard knocks, hitting the garden furniture a little resulting in a few chips to the props before my big drop from about 9 feet breaking 2 props.

Yosser70

Just looking at these for my first multi as they sound good value and from what you guys say work as well as motors costing twice as much. On question though and please excuse my lack of knowledge but the advert for them says they are to be used with 3S lipo batteries, is this right or can they be used with bigger batteries with a UBEC?

mrmurder1975

I would think they can be used with 4s lipo, but you would need to prop down to 8 inch. im not 100% on that so you would be better off waiting for confirmation from others.
