    FPV I think I'll stick my Pi in it, can live with the slight delay as this is going to be a cruiser.

    Lipo
    5S Graphene 1300mAh
    6S Flourean 2200mAh

    Now I have stress tested the motor / ESC combo.
    Running at 6S with 5inch triblades those motors generate over 1.5Kg of static thrust and pull @25A. The ESC wer fine but the motor was getting a little to ho tfor my liking. Should be ok for short bursts.

    Found this as well motor KV / cell count and motor speed.

  • Well I was bricking it for the maiden.
    I've had 2 of the ESCs go up in smoke just powering them direct to the lipo and was half expecting the hex to fall out of the sky in flames.  :evil

    But all went well.

    It's quite nippy on 3S didn't try 4S as I'd left those packs at home and 5S was just plain mental. PID needs proper tuning as they just don't fit with this setup.

    Got about 10min cruising around LOS on a 2200mah bat.

    Already want to pull it apart and rebuild it as I think it can be done better. But that's all part of the fun. ::)

  • To be honest I'm a bit scared of crashing it as it will probably break. It has new motors that I don't want to get muddy.

    Trying to keep it as a cruiser not a chuck around thing.

  • This thread's reminded me that I've got a barely started Thorax mini hex built around here somewhere.
    I decided to get 1806 motors for that one as it's not going to be particularly heavy, just basic FPV and a 1500 to 1800mAh 3 cell. I wanted to make it more efficient for longer flight times instaid of stupendously fast (With me, The faster it is, The wider the area I'm having to hunt in for it's components when it hits the ground. ::) ).

  • Cheap sh$te ESCs well you get what you pay for I guess.

    All of them powered up fine on a low current desktop PSU but 2 burnt out when connected to a 5S lipo.  :o

    The caps just couldn't handle the inrush current.

    They also don't support Dshot reliably I am getting twitching /stuttering and dsyncing when running dshot but not oneshot.

    At least with a hex when a motor starts to stutter or dsync it does not fall from the sky  ::)

  • By Jove I think I've sorted it  ::)

    After about 4 ESCs either going up in smoke or just going short circuit I twigged a pattern, it was always the ones that had been programmed for reverse direction. Little bit of googling and it turns out some other people experienced problems when using reverse direction, not killing the ESC but it was enough for me to give ago.

    I think there's a HW problem with these FuriBee things with startup and the reset circuitry.  :thumbdown:

    So everything rewired and set to normal rotation, after many power up on the bench and a few flights no more dead ESCs.

    OS42 is working fine no more sync problems.

    Now to try out something different for Dterm filtering  :crossfingers: It may go horribly wrong or make me a happy bunny.

  • After a few unfortunate moments she was in need of a new nose, modified top plate, exchanged RX, replaced bottom plate, reworked runcam to remove the battery, new antenna, gps and props. New FC.

    But all back up and running again.

  • Cheers, it worked out ok, made from some scraps of plastic found down the back of a cupboard at work. ::)

    Might redo it at some point in carbon, it also makes it easier to attach to the back of me rucksack.
