Free to Play Demo - Airsports Quadro

Airsports Quadro
 
Hi!
Airsports Quadro is a Quadcopter Simulation in development that I am working on.
The simulation uses Nvidia PhysX and the entire flight mechanics are based on forces, torques etc., as opposed to scripted simulators. Also all environment collision is handled by PhysX. The development environment is Unreal Engine 4. The demo can be downloaded for free and without registration.

Update v2.0 is out, see post 10 for details

did you execute the prerequisities in the download? Try also to put the XInput dlls from x360ce folder into your System path (see manual). Unreal Engine is quite picky when it comes to devices. Unity is easier there (velocidrone)

I am also running a 980 and did not hold back! It is optimised to run on max settings on GTX 980/780 -ish.
Vjoy and other controllers, that's something I have to look in. The project is only 3 weeks old so far.

Time for a new update. Focus was put on user friendly menus, addition of a new vehicle class (air planes) and rewriting the project for multiple vehicles and locations. A website is also available now.

Hi,

Moved on a bit since I last saw it. My system blitz's it with effectively everything turned up to the max.

Have only run with the default controller setup which is not a normal flight control setup by any means and one I'm not about to learn, with throttle on a return trigger, yaw on RH stick, pitch and roll on LH stick, a sort of corrupted Mode1.

It would benefit everyone if Mode1 and Mode2 at least were pre-set to pick from and to be frank if you want people to use it before you go any further you will put in at least a preset for Taranis on USB as a Joystick. Do I have the time and interest to play around for ages setting up a controller? Probably not.

I do like the graphics, but Flight Sims stand or fall on their response to controller inputs, and there are a lot of Sims to choose from that are much more "ready to go".

I'm comparing with FPV Event, FPV Freerider, FPV Freerider Recharged, Real Drome Simulator, Velicidrone, Drone Racing League, HotProps, Kestrel FPV, LiftOff, and Phoenix, BTW.

Provide an easier entry for users and I'm sure you'll get a much better "press"!

Thank you for the feedback.

The situation right now is that I started this during the winter when the weather was bad outside. Just for myself to have fix. I also know the other simulations, but to be honest, I need graphics to get immersion. Good graphics. And almost all of the other sims are lacking in this area. I just can not play mobile games and stuff because of the looks of them. I am also pretty fast with programming things in different engines, so it was easy turnaround for me to do it myself. I also enjoy creating different mechanics, here in the Sim and also in real life.

And here is why there is no ingame flight controller setup as of now:
Unreal Engine, which I use,  is second winner to Unity3D in many aspects, and one of them is input devices. Long story short, Unreal Engine takes only Xinput devices (eg. Microsoft gamepad), which is very bad if it comes to PC gaming simulations. There is a plug-in available, but it costs around 50 dollars. And it only works with the recent engine versions of UE4. So I would have to bring the project to a newer version, which involves lots of ugly work.
Using UE4 and everything did not cost anything so far and was just fun to do. The moment I start spending money
on the project, it leaves that fun zone and I would also ask for money for the final simulation. And I am not sure if I want this because I am in zero need of money and dealing with unhappy constumers and such is not my idea of fun for maybe a few hundred or thousand dollars that it might create.

But after all, maybe it motivates other people to give something like this a shot. Unity3D and UE4 are really not difficult if you have a coding background.

A new update is available! Version 2.4.

NEW: Flight Simulation RCs are fully integrated now and can easily be set up. Use the 'AirsportsQuadroRCDetector' that comes with the download and the new Controls Mapping Menu in the simulation. In tests it was faster than 10 secs! Also see video if something is not understood.

NEW: Gliders and a new thermalling system are done! Hill winds, i.e. wind Lee/Luv on mountain slopes, are also in! See Video.

New: Large Help Section covering all aspects of the simulation.
Improvement Quad: Optional Tilt Lock gives better stability.
And lots of small things in the menus to be more user friendly.

I have not been able to get the updated version running.

Before Extracting the new file set I deleted the old saved games and also the contents of the AQ folder of all old files.

I cannot get the game running as it keeps trying to nest windows at high speed that cannot be accessed or stopped or deleted. Only restarti the computer stops this, Task Manager will not show anything To stop.

Windows 10 in 64 bit, file in AQ flder in "D" drive".  Taranis Tx connected in USB ready for setting up.

If I use the old shortcut on desktop I get what it states on screen is v1.4 running, despite having deleted the files!

I do not know, no other user has ever reported something like this. I checked again as well and all works fine.


What you could try, in case it is a Windows 10 thing, is starting the game not from the .exe in the root folder but use the main Unreal Engine .exe directly. It is here:
...\AirsportsQuadro64bit\AirsportsQuadro\Binaries\Win64

I also usually just delete the entire save games folder before starting a new version. It will get added again though as soon as you execute the game.

I tested Win 7,8,10. Also putting it on different drives (C:,D:,E:,...)

I like the gliders.  Do you fly real ones?  I used to.  I have been keeping half and eye on gliding simulators, there were a few and I haven't looked for a long time but I don't think there is a good one out there.

I think there could be a real market for a really good one. 

One that simulates all the current glide computers, nav systems, instruments, ballasting, lift, aerodynamics, pop-out propulsion units, winch launching and aero-tow, ground handling, weather, multi-player, comms...

Something at least of the standard of DCS world with regards to the levels of simulation, detail and slickness of operation but for gliding....

That would be so good.
