• Bad Raven: Is the issue Turnigy or Turnigy Nano-Tech? I have found that mid-blue Turnigy tend to be low on their stated "C" discharge rating.

 • ched999uk: RaceDayQuads have some cheap but good batts out now. Josh B tested and stats say very good especially at price. HobbyRC have 1300mAh 4S just under £20. Not had luck with Turnigy lipos either!!

 • Reman: Just realised that I hadn't gone through my stored Li-Po's for about a month. I try to visually check them every Saturday, And prod the plugs with a multimeter about once a month. Todays seen 12 more bulging packs go out to the incinerator..... All but one was a bloody Turnigy! Part of me wan't to burn the rest now and just get a load more Tattu packs, But I've spent good money on these packs and wan't to at least get a little more use out of them. :(

 • Bad Raven: Pre MR's I used to buy a lot from J.Perkins. Their website showed all items and stock or due date, go to dealer and buy with confidence. Then they went all "lifestyle" and all the site had were pictures or people. I wasn't after people. I never bought again. Yes, you'd think they'd learn...........

 • ched999uk: Reman sounds like amazon search. I find it ok unitil you want to search by price then amazon falls apart.... You would think both companies would get it right...

 • Reman: It's strange. The original setup they had about 5 or 6 years back wasn't too bad (Except for them occasionally getting accounts hacked), But they changed it to the last one that was clunky and slow, Now they've replaced that with a flashier one that's also clunky and slow ?!?!?! Most companies learn from what they do wrong. I don't buy from HK half as much as I used to, Mainly because it takes forever to trawl through 100 pages of totally unrelated stuff while looking for something you were thinking about getting when you saw it there the previous week !!!

 • hoverfly: I don't think there is a search button on H/King. They updated the site and forgot to relabel the search button with Random bo##ocks..

 • Reman: I see HobbyKing's revamped their site again...... Shame they haven't made the search function work any better, Or worked out why the whole site goes slower than a pensioner in a Nissan Micra. :)

 • Reman: How thick is Google? You buy something online, Then for the next week you get targeted adds for the item you've just got?!?! That's the one item you're NOT going to be buying again at that point so it's wasted effort of there part. :)

let’s see what we can do, first question though is what sort of quad are you after, seems a little confused in parts, a racer or an acro/Park flier?

armattan Rooster frame
There have been a few problems with the QC on the rooster, but fair enough, suggests not a racer
Quote
Bardwell f4 fc
Hmm most of the development focus on flight control software is on 32khz gyro/pid loops and the filtering associated with that, you can’t do that with an MPU6000, I would rather look for a flight controller with a 32khz capable gyro (IMU series)

30amp spedix escs
That covers a multitude of escs, go for blheli32
Quote
F40 ii pro motors
if I want a high end racer, any day of the week and twice on sunday, however for a Park flier or acro, there are potentially cheaper options that suit the throttle band better and will give you better flight times

thanks for the reply
Looking at a more acro oriented build

what would you reccomend for the FC?

for the motors, would the brother r5s or Hypetrains be a better option?
Is there anything extra I'd need for this build?

Flight controller is an interesting one, the f4 bluejay and f7 Nero work very well but don’t give an ISD, the matek f7, the omnibus f4 pro corner and fireworks are both good spec.

Motors, the r5 are gonna give you as good performance for acro as the f40ii and are of a quality just as good. Hype train are pretty close but you are paying for a brand. I think I would go with r5

A thought on props -the cyclone are good, but were originally more racing orientated, I would say gemfan wind dancer or cyclone t5040c are better acro props, smoother and more efficient at the cost of some top end. The smoothness may not be obvious depending on how experienced a pilot you are, but if you want to trade speed for efficiency try them

I see thanks,
The omnibus looks nice, what about the kakute-f4-aio-v2-flight-controller?
Also, what would happen with the swift and a fc with an OSD? would they conflict?

Right bought from makeitbuildit, Spedix GS 30A 2-4S BLHeli 32bit Dshot 1200 Escs
BrotherHobby Returner R5 Deadpool Edition 2450KV Brushless Motor 4-5S
DALProp T5040C Cyclone Tri-Blade

I would buy it from Makeitbuildit but not sure if I have to buy the TBS Unify Antenna plate separately or if it's included (I'm sure I saw somewhere saying it would be included in 2nd batch shipments.)

The kakute is a bit marmite, some like, some hate, it has a 32khz capable gyro I believe on the v2

not so much conflict, both will appear. Turn off one or the other off. Tbh the cam offers all you need in flight, but the F.C. OSD will let you tune things

Went with the Kakute in the end,
Recieved frame & FC, today.
Frames built, tested FC and looks fine in Betaflight.

Only concern I have is on the back on two of the processors one has a black like 'N' Mark, top right of picture but not visible in PIC
While middle one has a brownish U mark

Any ideas what this is, just a little worried it's a damaged chip or something!

Looks fine from that picture.

Take a better one if you can and circle the area of concern. To help us help you.

A worse photo, but you can kinda see the black mark on the processor, main concern is the brown mark which is clearer on first photo.
Just wanted to double check before I start soldering on the board!
It's probably nothing but thought it worth asking.

Does it power up and work ok on the bench?

The small chip is the flash for BlackBox logging so not that important.

The big chip looks to me more brown ish, I hate to say possible overheating during manufacturing or operation.

Power it up and see how hot it gets, it should't get hot at all. If it does then I'd not be happy using it.

Yes, betaflight appears to work fine, left it connected for around 15-20mins and it did get 'slightly warm' all over the board but not very noticeable.
Drone pic rotates etc when I move the FC which is a good sign.

I've contacted the provider (unmanned) just to see what they say!

thanks for your help, hopefully not a goner.

Just an update, did go ahead and build it and it works fine.
Recieved a reply from the supplier after and it turns out both marks are made to make sure correct firmware has been put on.

Haven't really flown it properly due to darn weather.
One query I had, is any good products for water proofing?
Trying to find a good option, is there something that I could put on ESC'S/ Motors(r5s are open bottom so a bit iffy especially in wet grass) & FC?
Have had a look around and everyone seems to say something different.

Only 1 chip has FW in it, so either they don't know what they are talking about or are feeding you BS.
