That woke me up with a jolt!!!  It seems I've got so used to seeing my camera hex perched up on the set of draws in the corner of my bedroom that the area now looks strangely empty without it (I took it apart on Sunday to begin the rebuild into its new Y6 frame)...... And now I'm wide awake at bloody half one in the morning....... And feeling like a paranoid pillock. :(

Gone and done it!
« on: January 07, 2017, 17:18:48 »
Hi,

I';m new to the forum but have been enjoying my Phantom 4 since it came out, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to see what all of the fuss was about with these racing quads and acro flying...So, I';ve gone in at the deep end and ordered a UMMAGAWD Edition Vortex, Fatshark V3';s, a pile of batteries + charger, spare props and a Taranis XD9 Plus.  I have everything except the Vortex, it cannot arrive quickly enough!

I realise that the Vortex is probably a lot more than I can sensibly handle right now, but I will tame it in the settings until I get used to it.  Any tips welcome!

Just googled it. Man thats one nice looking quad!
Best way to learn mate jumping right in at the deep end. I';ve done the same thing nd loved every minute of it.
Happy flying pal

You should be fine with the vortex,
You can always get some less aggressive props but if you use angle mode and take it steady you should be fine, it is a nice enough quad but the lumenier 2206 2350kv are not the most powerful motors by a long shake (although superb efficiency and very smooth) and the weight is a bit in the heavy side for a racing quad.

Suggest you consider getting some 5x4x3 triblades, should take some of the skittishness out of it

Edit: I should reiterate it is a nice quad, my point about the weight and motor power is that it isn';t an absolute top end racer, I wouldn';t be too worried about being able to handle it, not suggesting you haven';t got a very good quad there

Best off starting in Horizon mode as this will allow you to get used to doing flips and rolls while having the safety net of self-leveling. But move on to acro as soon as possible ;)

You';ll love acro flying, it';s a totally different game to flying a P4. Way more fun ::)

Hi started with an emax 250 and it almost put me off completely but was bitten by the bug, Changed to a vortex and found the out of the box setup made it much easier to fly. The only down side  is its very easy to fly past your current skill level.
There is nothing wrong with the emax it';s all down to tune and unfortunately when you need it most you are least able.

I';d defo agree with Revs on this one. I flew angle mode about twice with my Nighthawk before I moved onto horizon mode.
Now I get to do flips and rolls but always have the auto level to bail me out
