  • So I build an Air-ro with the following:
    Vtx : HGLRC XJB-TX20 Mini
    Camera : Foxeer Arrow mini V2
    Antenna : DemonRc VEE
    25v 330uf low esr capacitor

    First 4 packs flown there wasn';t any issue really clear feed, this is the 6th flight and I';m getting black line when I throttle up that get worse during the flight...


    Any idea';s?

  • Suspect the cap isn';t big enough mate (only speculation, currently no where where I can view the vid, but based on your description).

  • Checked CAREFULLY all the obvious?

    True matching frequency, not just close?  (Auto seeks sometimes stop on a near miss)

    ALL connections at both ends have no High Resistance?

    Other model(s) OK?  Use a mate';s if only one?

    then......... Disconnect one ESC at a time to try to isolate?

  • The lines look like they are behind the OSD so coming from the camera not the VTX.

    I had similar when I was powering my camera from 5 volts from the FC. It just wasn';t upto the job.

    Switched the camera supply to the same that supplies the VTX and the lines went away.

    How do you have it wire up? Could this be an issue?
    Or something getting warm / stressed too much.

    Yeah can';t see anything wrong, but yeah all obvious stuff checked and to be fair the feed is clear when I have no throttle input.

    agree with llama, it looks like it is the cam, not the OSD or VTX.

    Generally if voltage drops too low those cams reboot
    I looks to me like that is electrical jitter from the motors/escs getting in to the cam power supply.

    This is what caps and L-C filters are designed to stop.

    you built this with a full sized FC didnt you ? (from memory kakute) how are you powering the camera?

    A bit rusty on this area but if it is clean for the first pack but gets worse over a number of packs I would suggest your existing cap is holding charge and gets to a point where it becomes ineffective.

    it kind of depends where you have the cap and how your are powering the cam, I would be tempted to try, when it starts to happen, WITHOUT LIPO CONNECTED, short the pads the cap is connected to for a few seconds, then try again
    Another thought is depending where you have the cap, put it on the camera side of the reg. - this will mean it is not smoothing the power to the FC/Gyro but is smoothing the cam feed, it should easily be big enough for that

  • Adam I';m using the same flight stack as you, but with a Foxeer arrow mini v2.
    The cap I';ve put on the opposite side of the esc board (opposite the lipo pads)
    The camera is powered off the 5v on the FC.

  • yeah sorry mate read back on other thread and figured that out

    Definitely worth a try, between packs, shorting the the pin holes the cap is connected to, it should be pretty easy as they protrude from the side of the pack, should be able to make sure the cap is fully discharged
    (working assumption: the smaller cap is storing so much charge that it becomes ineffective, hence the more packs in rapid succession the worse it becomes)

  • The camera is powered off the 5v on the FC.

    I';d power it from somewhere else.

    Just remembered, my problem showed first when I turned on the TX, my RX would start transmitting and I';d get an unstable 5V, RX powered from FC. To start with the video was ok, but over a few flights it got progressively worse. It';s fine now that it';s not powered from the FC.

    Shite power supply on the FC 1A my ar$e  ::)

    What rx/goggles/antenna are you using mate?
    Llama, the build uses the same supply for the cam and the VTX, I would expect inability to provide power would take out vtx first, really dont think it is power

    Hozza, the more I watch it, the more I think there is a problem with the cam

    both were goggles/rx issue (what are you using there including antenna mate?)
    otherwise cam
    out of interest does it do the same thing props off on the bench?

    (other close cases are solved by changing cam - dont think it is the Cap with the expansion of what is happening)

  • Skyzone Sky01';s with 2 x menacerc invader patch antenna, wasn';t getting any issue flying my other 2 quads I had with me at the time. The Air-ro I';ve currently got the Demonrc vee on it.

    When you say camera issue, do you mean power to camera issue or knackered camera?

    Will try props off and let you know.

  • OK mate, so bits:
    camera issue - were fixed by replacing the camera (same power source)
    (as a general rule black on the vid feed is a cam problem)
    the invader is circularly polarised, the V isnt mate, you would do better with a bandecoot, possibly even just straight rubber duck/dipoles
    (dont think it is cap, power I would expect to be all or nothing)

    I know what you mean about the antenna but I would expect reflection issues not black lines

  • Yeah you mean white static lines,
    Interestingly if an Rx/goggles combo is not coping well with static it can appear as black areas. Putting a better (more appropriate) or even different type of antenna on the goggles may make a difference

    It could even be interference in that area is a contributi factor

    Damn, it would be easier if you had a control condition indoors where you can change something and test.

    I think I would suggest, as a first step try flying it somewhere else and try using rubber duck or similar antenna on the goggles, doubt either will cure but if it makes a difference one way or another it will give some indications

  • I';ve had the quad apart double checking the connections, the ipex seemed loose as it popped off with little encouragement so I';ve bent the lugs in slightly and it feels nice and firm, now the noise seems to have gone, but I won';t get to fly it till the weekend.

    Thanks to everyone for their input, it';s what make this community great :smiley:

  • Update its all sorted, it was the ipex. Flown 4 packs tonight zero issue.
