  • ched999uk: RaceDayQuads have some cheap but good batts out now. Josh B tested and stats say very good especially at price. HobbyRC have 1300mAh 4S just under £20. Not had luck with Turnigy lipos either!!

  • Reman: Just realised that I hadn't gone through my stored Li-Po's for about a month. I try to visually check them every Saturday, And prod the plugs with a multimeter about once a month. Todays seen 12 more bulging packs go out to the incinerator..... All but one was a bloody Turnigy! Part of me wan't to burn the rest now and just get a load more Tattu packs, But I've spent good money on these packs and wan't to at least get a little more use out of them. :(

  • Bad Raven: Pre MR's I used to buy a lot from J.Perkins. Their website showed all items and stock or due date, go to dealer and buy with confidence. Then they went all "lifestyle" and all the site had were pictures or people. I wasn't after people. I never bought again. Yes, you'd think they'd learn...........

  • Reman: It's strange. The original setup they had about 5 or 6 years back wasn't too bad (Except for them occasionally getting accounts hacked), But they changed it to the last one that was clunky and slow, Now they've replaced that with a flashier one that's also clunky and slow ?!?!?! Most companies learn from what they do wrong. I don't buy from HK half as much as I used to, Mainly because it takes forever to trawl through 100 pages of totally unrelated stuff while looking for something you were thinking about getting when you saw it there the previous week !!!

  • Reman: How thick is Google? You buy something online, Then for the next week you get targeted adds for the item you've just got?!?! That's the one item you're NOT going to be buying again at that point so it's wasted effort of there part. :)

FPV Flightclub PROton
« on: December 20, 2017, 21:49:52 »
Whilst I am entirely hooked on my Air Ro (running three of them) to the exclusion of my 5 inch frames, I feel it is time for an ultra light 5 inch.
Love the low profile look of this frame, it is on its way and all other parts here so thought I would start a build thread:

Frame: FPV FlightClub PROton (Skeleton format)
http://fpv-flightclub.com/215g-race-quad/

Flight controller: Sunrise Siskin F4/30 amp blheli32 aio
(Going for light with blheli32 escs, on 48khz pwm ultra smooth)
https://www.electricwingman.com/sunrise-siskin-aio-fc-30a

Motors: ZMX finX23 IJN Umikaze
Again with the ultralight, just under 24grams without wires. 2205 2600kv so gonna be careful with prop choice
http://www.acrodrones.co.uk/product/zmx-finx23-fr05-2-6k-motor-ijn-umikaze-2205-2600kv/

Cam - Foxeer predator mini -after seeing a couple of reviews decided to give this a try

Got some gemfan winddancer 5042 props which I really like but also trying dal t5051c

that build thread is notably avoiding 2 somethings when stating its weight?

I might be wrong, maybe I missed it but when listing the full build list there's no mention of battery or for that matter props.

are they even included in that auw?

if not..... its not exactly "lightweight" anymore, at the minimum I doubt it weighs in under the 250 mark??
550 custom H-copter (redesigned)
zmr250
Reaper250 V.1
Podracer v2
zmr250Hybrid
250 Twinboard
Project Sparkie (under repair)

It isn’t gonna be under 250gram AUW, to do that you have to use a 40grams or less frame, 14xx motors, 850mah lipo and light props. The ultra light racers are about 210-220gram without lipo. (Think Floss or CMW superlight or Norris built light)
Lipos are typically 1300mah or 1500mah depending on if they can get the course done on 1300 with the motor/prop/AUW. Generally they try and get down close to 350gran AUW which is considerably lighter than your average 5 inch quad

Ok built and maidened.
Will get maiden footage sorted later, nothing exciting, but nice

Thoughts -WITCHCRAFT

The frame is a delight to build, Mike has, as usual put a lot of thought in to it, there are bags of stuff you don’t get on other quads. It is seriously well thought out and near. If you only buy one frame this year, buy this one!!

He actual sent me the 5.5 inch arms, and I quite like them, good for stability, very little weight increase.

I also ditched the 25mm standoffs it comes with and built it with 20mm

Lamule -could easily accommodate split. Also mate, take a try of the 5040 cyclones if you haven’t already, for your kind of acro photography they seem brilliant as well as very efficient

Running bf3.2.3, reversed yaw, 8khz/4khz, dshot1200, all gyro filters removed, dynamic filtering enabled
Latest blheli32 with motor pwm turned up to 48khz

So the big question for me........

Something like this or the AIR-RO, (I have been holding out to see if the motors will come back in stock on the Kit) for a beginner?

For a beginner? Air ro, has slightly less top end but nit lacking, more robust, peerless agility, almost indestructible and cheap to run

That looks nice. I like the vtx antenna mounting position, should be quite safe.
Did you manage to get it under 250gms with batt?

Lol wasn’t trying to mate, no where near, done that on 2 quads as an exercise but you can’t do it with standard component, the ultralight racers AUW are around 350-400grams AUW

I just saw the bit about 'ultra light 5 inch' and thought you might have succeeded in sub 250 ::)
Oh well we will have to wait for the stupid gov rules to see the weight limits. If they ever sort themselves out that is.

Lol I started flying mine with 1000mah lipos mate, they go insanely fast, the PROton is quite possibly the only quad I have faster than them

How are you getting on with butterflight? I watched a Josh B youtube vid where he shows 2 fight comparing BF to butterflight and to me butterflight  seemed more locked in. He didn't seem convinced but said it was good to try the different software.
Have you tried a comparison between the Karman filters and the new ones BF are using?

Cheers Adam for the tip.  I have liked this frame for a while.  When I have a bit of spare cash going I might order one, and, as you say I think a Split would be the way forward.  I have a hankering to give the brotherhobby avengers a go with one! :)

Cheers for the tip on the cyclones too.  I might give them a go when the HQs run out! :)

:) if we are both at next south ox meet mate I will have spare 5040 cyclones on me you can try if you haven’t by then.

As long as you don’t want full on race speeds I would say the first version was smoother as an acro/cam option (5.5 inch arms and zmx finx23), was slow either, may be worth considering on other frames

Thanks Adam, that’s great. It’d be good to catch up again too! It was a shame you couldn’t make the last one.
