It was too windy but i flew anyway - got some practice in flying downwards, only crashed once and it seemed to bounce back ok;

Hi Chris,that looks really good,could you please give me there site adress please and how much did it cost,also is that 1506 motors your running,they are not the best,ive got some from HobbyKing ile be trying,one more question 12 amp speedo's,thank'Marty.

I've just updated the youtube description to include all the details (i think - let me know if anything is missing).

The motors i am running are these ones from hobbyking;

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__18152__Turnigy_Aerodrive_SK3_2826_1130kv_Brushless_Outrunner_Motor.html

They seem to run very nicely compared to all the other motors I've tried, but I'm always open to recommendations if you think there's something better available (for a similar price).

The frame is from flyduino;

http://flyduino.net/Quadrocopter-Frame-Set-20cm-arm

but they seem to be out of stock at the moment.

Just got back from another quick flight;

 :bravo:  Very nice Chris,nice flying area and nice potrait,I cant get any info on your video,the motor i was looking at was the AX 1806 N,its a 2100 kv motor,I intented using 5-3 props and 3s-1550 cells,the reason for this is it will all go in a backpack,what props ans batt's are you using,ive had a coupple of 250 frams and though they flew well,had to send them to the sick bed.
What i whant is a robust machine that can do areo's.
Once again thank's,Marty.

If you are looking at 2100kv motors you'll be building a much smaller quadcopter than me. I've found (and I've read other people saying the same thing) that 8 inch props with suitable motors around 1000 to 1200kv are a real 'sweet spot' with quadcopters as you can build one small and light enough to be acrobatic and large and powerful enough to go fast and pull big loops. Mine weighs 700 grams including the 2200mah 3 cell battery.

If you watch the videos warthox uploads to vimeo he posts the specs of his machines at the end of each one. I've watched quite a few in order now and over the couple of years he's been flying, the quadcopters he uses for stunt flying have gotten smaller and lighter, he uses 8 inch props in most of his better recent acrobatic videos.

http://vimeo.com/warthox

If you build a quadcopter around 2100kv motors you'll end up with something quite a bit smaller than mine, and it will fly quite differently. It would be great for indoors (large living rooms, sports halls etc) but not so good outside in large spaces when it's windy. Here is an example of a slightly smaller quadcopter with higher KV motors;

Butterfly X250 Quadcopter

My quadcopter would not fit in a backpack. I could probably get it in a 'hand luggage' sized case if i picked the right one and took the props off.

Here's my latest video. If you click through to get to youtube i've put links to the hardware in the description at the bottom;

Quadcopter Acrobatics

I am slowly putting together a smaller quadcopter with 2100kv motors myself - it should be a lot of fun indoors when it's windy or flying around the back garden but i don't expect it will be anything like as exciting as my flyduino with the 8 inch props.

I imagine it must be declared as the acrobatic pilot in this forum :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

Thanks - just waiting on some 8" carbon fibre props to arrive from rctimer, hopefully in the next few days or so - i think I've got to the point where they wont be wasted on me now.

I managed to get a much higher quality video of my quadcopter, unfortunately ruined by the autofocus on the camera turning it blurry half the time. I will set the focus manually for the next attempt.

Quadcopter Stunt flying practice in HD

This one came out in focus, it might have been better if I'd been flying 20 mins later in the evening because the LEDs don't show up as well as I'd like.

Still, can't fault the camera woman or the video quality for once.

I';ve just started on a new flyduino based project;

I';ve drilled some of the cheap hobbyking carbon fibre square tubing to fit the flyduino frame centre plates. It took me a few attempts to get the hang of drilling the carbon fibre but once i learned to measure both sides and drill half way from each side rather than trying to drill all the way through in one go (thanks gaza!) it was much easier to get the holes precise enough. If i had a drill press rather than a cheap dremmel clone i expect this would be much easier.

Unfortunately I';ve run out of carbon fibre after successfully doing 3 arms (and failing a bunch of times) so now i have to wait for more to arrive. Fortunately hobbyking uk seems to have some in stock at the moment;

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__26194__Carbon_Fiber_Square_Tube_750x10_5mm_UK_Warehouse_.html

so hopefully i wont be waiting too long.

I';ve completed the frame, i just need motors, speed controllers and everything else now;

Still, seems pretty light (118 grams so far).

Slowly making progress, still got to decide on what ESCs and flight controller I';m going to use though;

Just over 300 grams now with the speed controllers and motors. I still need to add the flight controller and battery pack though (and props)!

Just waded through this thread - excellent stuff ~~

Been looking at a Warthox frame and pondering for some time now and I have run out of helicopters to sell :smiley:

They are very good quality minimal frames.

You can build something a bit smaller and lighter than the rctimer dji clone frames allows for so you can end up with a sportier quad.

They cost a bit more though and they aren';t quite as tough.

In between the previous two videos i posted i managed to get this one;

! Private video

I was trying for 10 flips - should probably have settled with 9.

It took me several hours the following day to clean the mud out my motor and get the thing running smoothly again, but it actually seems to be flying slightly better after the crash than before. I was lucky!

Flying over a field with long grass and deep boggy mud definitely helps. If I';d been flying over short grass (or concrete especially) it would have been destroyed.

I did bend a motor axle - i had a spare though so i was ok.

The fact the quadcopter is fairly light at 710 grams will have helped.

After todays crash i had to repair the thing, so i took a picture afterwards in case i crash it again.

I suffered 2 broken props and one motor dug deep enough into the mud to fill up with the stuff. I ran the muddy motor under the warm tap then sat it in cat litter (silica gel) to dry out. They all run fine now so i was lucky.
